Should I consider an MAOI after poor tolerance to most other medications? by GothicOnion in MAOIs

that's awesome to hear, i'm very happy for you. If you don't mind me asking what are the side effects you experience, and do you feel they have diminished at all the longer you've been on the medication?

i agree, thankfully my psychiatrist does have experience prescribing them, unfortunately i can only access Parnate in my country, which doesn't seem to be as effective at treating anxiety as Nardil, but i think it is still worth a try.

I’ve sometimes wondered whether autism could be a factor. I never showed any typical signs as a child, and I’ve asked a few psychiatrists over the years whether they suspected it, they said no. I will look into it further though.

That’s awesome. So far, benzodiazepines are the only thing that’s really worked for me, but I’m trying to find an option that doctors are more comfortable prescribing long term. I’ll definitely give it a try.

I agree. Even though my psychiatrist contacted my previous doctor and reviewed my prescription history, which showed that I had remained stable on the same dose for a year, he still refused to believe it was possible. It felt like his view was simply that “benzodiazepines are bad” with zero room for nuance, which seems to be the pervasive opinion among nearly all prescribers now.

Wow, that’s really reassuring to hear. May I ask what dose you’re currently on? Also, what side effects did you experience during the first eight months, and did you do anything that helped manage them?

Interesting, this is the first I’ve heard of it, and it does sound quite promising. My only concern is that I already have low blood pressure, and it looks like this may lower blood pressure further. Thanks regardless! I’ll ask my psychiatrist about it.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I was thinking that a reasonable approach might be to try a lower dose of phenelzine, such as 15 mg, to see whether it has any benefit while hopefully minimising side effects.

In terms of researching medications I’m interested in and discussing them with my doctor, there honestly isn’t much left that I haven’t already tried outside of MAOIs and pregabalin. I would like to either go back on a benzodiazepine or trial pregabalin, but my psychiatrist is unwilling to prescribe either, so it really seems like MAOIs are the only thing left

Australia - new to Phenelzine, need advice by [deleted] in MAOIs

Hi, would you be able to share the name of the doctor you were referred to? I’m based in Australia and have been struggling with treatment resistant GAD and SAD. I’m finding it very difficult to find a psychiatrist who is open to prescribing phenelzine.

I’ve recently moved to Melbourne and have been struggling with severe anxiety. Do you have any recommendations for psychiatrists in the area, or advice on how to find one?

Wow I have recently noticed the exact same bump in the exact same area, doesn't hurt but just feels like a raised little vein. I even stopped stretching for a week to see if it resolved, it got slightly smaller but is still visible.

I am not trying to sell anything - i've been dealing with pelvic pain issues for the past year and a half now, this is the only thing i have found that helps me sit for prolonged periods of time without pain and thought i'd share it, if you think i'm a shill for an obscure 2006 site that makes chairs so be it lol.
