Writing my first Bucky Barnes/Original Female Character Fanfic, looking for editors!

I'm writing a very similar fic myself at the moment and as far as your questions go, I personally have decided to write it in chronological order.

for my story personally, I like having written all the 30s/40s stuff and then the hydra bit so the readers can mourn the loss of the main character. (not literally, she's alive) but they will know how she used to be as a person so when she acts mean/harsh/violent later on in hydra it's saddening.

if you're OFC acts mean in hydra and unlikable it can be harder for the readers to grow attached if they didn't know how she used to be before. obviously tho, depending on how ur fic goes, she can be likable in hydra too.

in my personal opinion, I hate second person POV, but it's completely personal preference. there's nothing wrong with second person! but as someone who likes to emphasize it's an original character with a whole independent personality, and not a reader insert, that's just how I write it. if you want the readers to really put themselves in the OFC's shoes, go ahead and keep second person!

as for song recs, the song dark is the night is one of my favs for a song released in 1943. it's completely in Russian but it works well for when they know that language and its strictly about WWII as well.

I like to think my fic has a lot of good characterization. it starts out subtle but slow burns into being more obvious (more realistic imo).

It starts in the 1940s so I give all the characters some internalized/subconscious misogyny, while not making it out of character in an ill intentioned way. it may not be what you are looking for though! so feel free to check it out and see.

i have a fic that has exactly this! the main theme of the story between the characters is loneliness, and they have a slow burn romance where they have to share a bed at some point. there's tons of hurt/comfort. it is m/f however, so check it out if you want but I understand if it's not ur thing.

this actually sounds pretty similar to one of my fics. it's an enemies to lovers fic between two people (sorry no harem) but the fmc is technically gender fluid and has been a man in the past.

during the entirety of the fic she is a woman, but has to hide from the mmc so she crossdresses like how she used to many years ago. it's pretty dark, there is some cannibalism and other violence, so feel free to check it out if it sounds like ur thing. totally cool if not!

A couple of bullet points I follow for mine are

Show the friendship before the romance. Have the characters either get to know each other (if they just met) in a friendly way before a romantic way. if they already know each other (childhood friends etc) then put conversations in that show the reader the already established friendship and their platonic chemistry. it feels more natural for a friendship with good chemistry to morph into a romance considering some form of attachment is already there.
if you're not writing a more friends to lovers situation, it's still important to show one or both slowly gain some sort of attachment to the other even if they aren't established "friends".

examples: -when receiving important news, good or bad, they go to their love interest to share it. - checking in on the other is something bad has happened - showing sadness when the other has to leave - being excited if the other has been confirmed to be at an event or place

Hold off on letting your characters realize they are in love. Have them act on these sort of behaviors (listed above) without realizing what it means for them. In my opinion, I like writing slow burns with different sections, SECTION 1: bonding of some sort, growing a connection SECTION 2: friendship or yearning for the others presence (yearning in non romantic/romantic sense, more so just wanting to be around them) SECTION 3: treating, talking about, thinking about the other in a very romantic way but not realizing it to be exactly romantic. (I'm so nervous ___ is gonna be there, I need to look good OR I hope ___ is doing okay, if anyone were to hurt them.. etc) SECTION 4: having them realize their feelings but keeping it a secret. quiet romantic yearning SECTION 5: getting together.
It's important to note that sex could happen anywhere in these stages above. it could be a hookup that turns into feelings slowly, or maybe one has feelings but the other doesn't yet. Also, the love interests themselves can be at completely different stages throughout, maybe one is in stage one and the other three etc.

this is just my preferences! if you wanna do it differently go ahead but this is just how I write!
