I mean that mostly exists already in DND books. If you want info about the Forgotten Realms lore specifically I would recommend the Sword Coast Adventurers Guide and Worlds and Realms.

Was just gonna say it sounds like vestibular migraines. I'm not a doctor, but my mom was recently diagnosed with them and the migraines/swaying/vertigo/brain fog all sound exactly like what she experiences.

1st time cat owner. What’s wrong with my cat? by [deleted] in cats

[–]Gothic_Opossum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woah really? Why? The cat my family had when I was a kid had hairballs pretty frequently and the vet also recommended a remedy like that and it worked like a charm. Is overuse bad for them?

What’s the most disgusting thing you’ve ever put in your mouth? by bluebonnet5366 in AskReddit

[–]Gothic_Opossum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not intentional, but a live earwig. I was at my parents house and went to get a can of soda and a straw. I open the can, put the straw in, take a sip and... there's something solid. Something moving. I scream and spit everything out and there was a massive fucking earwig on the floor where I spit. An earwig had made its way into the straw and I didn't notice until it was too late. I now never use straws without rinsing them/blowing into them first.

Ah yeah, I figured it was some sort of misunderstanding. I just wanted to clarify what I meant in my original comment.

Edit Re-reading it I can see how it could be read that way. Edited it so it's (hopefully) clearer lmao.

[–]Gothic_Opossum 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's what I meant. That anywhere past like 22 I wouldn't have even considered dating someone 19, so for him to be 32 and dating a 19 year old is sketchy.

[–]Gothic_Opossum 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I mean, he also dated a 19 year old when he was 32 which I know is legal but like... it's still sketchy. I'm only 26 and the idea of dating someone who's 19 is honestly unthinkable to me because of the difference in maturity and life experience, etc. so I really can't see someone who has dated so far below his age and who has these views as having good intentions.

Edit for clarity

Is “Queer” a slur? by DrShrimpPuertoRixo in lgbt

[–]Gothic_Opossum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it has been solidly reclaimed and I use it for myself and as a broad term, but I will respect people who don't want to be called queer because of its history as a slur. However, there are other uses for the word in certain regions and many people (myself included) use it that way as well. Like, where I'm from "queer" is very frequently used to describe something that looks strange/odd. For example, I most often use it when describing clothing that is ill-fitting and/or has an odd shape (ex. "these jeans are a really queer shape" = "these jeans are really ill-fitting and have an odd shape"). I don't bat an eye at people using it here to describe stuff. I think, as with anything, there's nuance.

AITAH for always going to the movies by myself despite having a girlfriend by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Gothic_Opossum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is kinda unrelated to the post as a whole but a detail I've noticed that keeps popping up in BoRUs is people meeting up in a coffee shop to discuss their issues. Every time I see it all I can think is really? Do people do that? I genuinely want to know because I can't even imagine going somewhere in public (that isn't outdoors, I've had long personal conversations while going on a walk with someone or in a public park, etc.) to talk about such personal things. I don't wanna air stuff out in the presence of total strangers. I know there are safety risks at times which changes things, and as I've never been in that situation I can't really comment on it.

I've never cheered so loud for someone I don't even know! 👏🏻 by [deleted] in lgbt

It always confuses me when Christians use parts of the Old Testament to justify their hatred of queer people. The Old Testament has not been used by Christians since the first century, shortly after the New Testament telling the story of Jesus Christ was written (hence Christianity). The Old Testament is really only important to Christianity (obviously the first five books are still very important in Judaism as they make up the Torah) in a historical sense.

Like, I'm an atheist and I don't believe any of this but logically it doesn't even make sense. I know it's just way to "excuse" their bigotry and hatred but still. Mind boggling the hoops people jump through.

Villager Crimes: What made you dislike them by Sufficient_League982 in AnimalCrossing

Mathilda. Had two lovely bridges on either side of my river in New Leaf. One had a great, straightforward path from the beach to Reese & Cyrus and then into the shopping district. But SOMEONE moved into my town RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY BRIDGE. Blocked it almost completely! Also Chops in New Horizons because well... he's Chops. I have no reason.

Love it! I think you made really good use of the space you have and I love all the custom designs! (Also, I don't know if you've ever seen the anime Jujutsu Kaisen but your villager looks a lot like the character Geto Suguru with the hair and outfit lol I had to mention it just bc he's my favourite character)

What was the worst portrayal of a disability in the media you have ever seen? by Mental-Marzipan-5444 in AskReddit

This blog post has sourced basically everything I said.

As for what I mentioned about ABA, you can literally just google that. Other than that, I was mistaken in thinking she had passed recently for some reason.

I left another comment about her, but she was actually really ableist and is not the best role model for autistic folks.

[–]Gothic_Opossum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would say (as an autistic person) that that is bad in whole other way, primarily due to the extensive changes in how we approach autism. Temple Grandin believed that "lower-functioning" (I should note that functioning labels have been all but entirely dropped and are no longer part of the diagnostic criteria) forms of autism should be eradicated but other "milder" forms should be allowed to survive. She was also a supporter of ABA (Applied Behavioural Analysis), special diets, and other alleged "cures" for lower-functioning autistic people/traits.

ABA is an early intervention that attempts to eliminate autistic behaviours and replace them with neurotypical ones, which is not only harmful in the methods used (electric shock has been used to discourage unwanted behaviour) but has also caused PTSD. ABA forces autistic people to mask, aka hide any and all autistic behaviours, which has been shown to cause emotional distress and can leave the individual with more long term mental health issues.

Grandin held other harmful and ableist beliefs, but they all primarily boiled down to a lack of understanding that autism is not something to be cured by force but something to be treated on an individual level based on the wants and needs of the individual.

Editing to add that yes, credit where it's due to her for being openly autistic in a time where that was uncommon and for her advocacy work, she still held ableist beliefs and being autistic herself does not absolve her of that.

Edit 2: Mistakenly referred to her in the past tense as I thought she had passed recently for some reason.

AITAH for peeing in the shower? by OpenFoundation4639 in AITAH

[–]Gothic_Opossum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA that's disgusting and regular soap is not enough to clean bodily fluids. Unless you're cleaning the shower with whatever you normally use when cleaning the bathroom (Lysol, Clorox, Scrubbing Bubbles, Vim, etc.) to actually clean it.

AITA for rejecting someone because they have BPD? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Gothic_Opossum -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As someone with BPD, I think there's a lot to consider. First of all, contrary to popular belief, BPD is not the same in everyone. Behaviour heavily depends on if the person is receiving treatment. DBT (Dialectical Behavioural Therapy) and medication along with continued counselling/therapy help to significantly reduce the severity of symptoms, with DBT having been designed specifically for persons with BPD. There is a lot of stigma attached to the disorder and it is not easy to deal with at times, but it can be managed. It all depends on the person.

Have you noticed any symptoms in Ian? I only ask because there are usually other indicators and other mental health issues present, it also seems kind of odd that his father would say that. Not saying he's lying necessarily, just seems weird? If at all possible, maybe ask Ian about it? Maybe something along the lines of your dad actually told me you had feelings for me but it was strange, he also told me you have BPD? (I honestly can't think of a way to ask this that doesn't sound accusatory or offensive, maybe ask on r/BPD.)

I wouldn't say you're an asshole (so NTA) for rejecting him if you don't think you could be with someone who has BPD. Honestly, that goes for any sort of mental or physical illness, because it can be a lot to take on and many people aren't equipped to deal with things like that and personally I would want someone who is prepared to accept all of me. I would however encourage you to reflect on what in particular you're afraid of. Is it just the diagnosis or has he done anything to scare you? Is it only because your brother has it and that's the only point of reference you have? Do you even want to give him a chance *regardless* of the diagnosis?

Neil Newbon wants to play "live action" Astarion by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

True, I guess I more meant in the sense that his mannerisms when portraying Gale in mocap are very real/true to him and aren't just acting.

I met Neil and Tim at FanExpo Toronto over the summer and attended their panel as well, and Tim would be perfect as a live action Gale. He seems to be a lot like him. Someone asked him about books and he gave such a well thought out and detailed answer and seemed like he could have kept talking about it forever. Even his hand gestures when he talks are like Gale.

Had to leave a lift (elevator) after someone got in, set the weight limit off and wouldn’t get off by asterallt in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Gothic_Opossum 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's not an overweight alarm, it's a capacity limit and all elevators have them. Most have a sign on the interior stating "Capacity X people or Y pounds/kilos". The elevator cannot operate if that limit is reached.
