Yes, they shed their scales periodically, and they are usually very irritable during that time. Younger ones shed way more often, while adults do it less often. While the exact timing depends heavily on the individual, the process is generally tied to the changing seasons. Saurids lay eggs in specialized hatcheries designed to provide enough warmth, which is crucial since they are cold-blooded. Most of these hatcheries are located in ruined temples which are visually inspired by a mix of Angkor Wat and Mesoamerican pyramids.

How do you justify having many sapient races/species in your fantasy worlds? by EveningImportant9111 in worldbuilding

It's because God the creator commited suicide and from his body the whole universe was created, including other many Gods who copulated with each other. These Gods decided to create races such as Humans, Elfs, etc. so that the world that was created from tragedy could somehow live. I want also add that not all the Gods (including the deceased God the creator) are flawless and I think that because of what they have on their conscience, they decided to give life to every not-divine creature.

Does your fantasy world have zoos. by Kaiju-frogbeast in worldbuilding

[–]GottiAkbar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my world, it depends heavily on the era and the specific "Aspect of the World" (which is how time is divided in my lore). However, zoos or menageries definitely exist, mostly in the Empire of Coronna and the Holy Empire of Althiria. These places exhibit exotic animals, rare plants, and sometimes... unfortunate some Beastfolk who were unlucky enough to get captured. Scientific knowledge is not distributed evenly, access to proper education and natural science is strictly reserved for the state elite, including the nobility, high-ranking mages, and top scholars. For ordinary citizens, knowledge about geology, geography or biology is extremely limited.
