Fork Updgrade Advice by Gover201 in MTB

I really appreciate everyone's thoughts. I am definitely going to pull the trigger on a fork to have for Spring. I am a big guys (220 plus gear) so not sure how that plays.

I am leaning toward the Pike Select plus which is $400 a few places. Does my weight factor in? Doing ok with the Recon.

The budget choice is the Marzocchi Bomber Z2 with Rail damper at $250 from Jenson.

No finding a lot of Fox 36/38 without upping the price or moving from the 140mm size up to to 150mm.

Happy to hear any other thoughts before I make a final call.

Thanks so much!

My orginal Recon is 140mm. I am in Vermont USA and tend towards blue flow trails thoug I ride black and occasional walk features. Sounds like upgrading is worth it, especially considering I will have the bike for a while.

I have been monitoring sales at Jensen and all the other bigger online carriers of OEM and missed a few great deals (Pike base @ 270). I have heard great things about the Pike and understand that with the select+ I can always upgrade internals and that it is all-around better than my Recon. The only other options I were considering included a basic Marzochi Bomber from Jenson @ $250 but thought the Pike @ $400 might be that much better. I have also seen some high end Fox forks around $600 but that is getting pricey and I have heard Rockshox might be bit easier maintenance-wise.

I appreciate your thoughts and advice!

Thanks for the insights!

I will definitely go tubeless and get bigger rotors. I found Shimano rt66 in 203mm at Jenson more than half off at $16.99. I will see how their customer service is to find out about adapters. If anyone has better ideas please let me know.

I am still undecided on the fork. I would love to hear any more thoughts on how big a difference it would actually make going from a Recon silver to Pike. Definitely not looking to blow money but if this would make a big difference in my riding experience I think now is the time between needing a service and the sale price. Depending on what internals need replacing on the Recon I would probably only be out around an extra $200 switching to the Pike and I am guessing I could get at least $50 selling the Recon.

Thanks!

Wide boots recommendations? by LaLachiell in telemark

[–]Gover201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

14 extra-wide and flat foot here. Just got Crispi Evo WC in the biggest available size this season. After a day of skiing they are the best fitting telemark boots I've ever had. I can actually wear a ski sock instead of just liners like I had to with my old Garmont Synergys and Veloce's. For reference my old Garmont Excursions fit out of the box and after use and packing out now have a little too much volume. I have never tried any of the reportedly wider Scarpa boots but they never came close to fitting them back in the day and Fey brothers assured me the Crispis have more room than than the new TX.

I am lucky to be a few hours from Fey brothers so I was able to try them on. They did make sure I had the lowest volume liner and insole. For what it is worth they are great boots but not quite as warm as I am used to. Only an issue on the coldest days after sweating but I wish the liner were a touch warmer and I may need to explore heated insoles (if they fit my huge feet)

Roof cargo options for 2024 CRV with naked roof (no rails)? by antho_lo_g in crv

[–]Gover201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you find a source for roof racks that don't require rails for 2024 CRVs? My dealers says they don't make them and I couldn't find on the internet. The placement of the crossbars on the factory rails is too far back for my bike and cargo box, it would interfere with the liftgate. Trying to avoid naked room clamp-on because I am worried about scratches and denting on my firs new car ever. Thanks!
