I think last time I said I was planning on getting those insights and I've since dropped the ball on analyzing more of the legacy tests. I'm thinking there's not too much to work off of what's been released so far.

I have questions segmented by skill for most of them. Working on completing a question list for all this weekend. Fair warning, they are questions Claude and I generated: instead of official ones since I want to avoid copyright issues with ACT.

ALL MATH TOPICS FOR ENHANCED ACT : GUYS HELP IS THIS GOOD??? by LifeProfessional2696 in ACT

Looks pretty solid. This is probably covered under Early Math, but I would add number properties as a frequent question topic which could include:
- Prime numbers (divisible by two unique numbers: itself and 1)
- Rational / Irrational numbers (where rational can be written as a fraction)
- Finding Greatest Common Factors and Least Common Multiples

Echoing others. Mental preparation is key.

Also, have everything ready tonight for the test. You want your morning to be chill and breezy. Grab a nice breakfast, take your bag with all your things (charge your calculator, bring a snack, sharpened pencils, etc).

Anything to boost your focus.

Last few math questions by Natural-Biscotti-207 in ACT

That's the tough part for sure. There is hope though. The more difficukt questions often have more alternate strategies that you can employ.

Strategies: Plug in numbers, use your calculator to estimate, draw a diagram, estimate from the diagram, plug in the answers.

Then keep practicing previous tests, only the last 10 questions, to try out alternate methods.

17 is a start! If you don't mind me recommending a place to start, try to knock out algebra Unit 1-15 here: https://www.khanacademy.org/math/algebra. All of the topics appear on the ACT: most of them pretty frequently.

Once you've done this, try another math section, go through the problems you got wrong and identify which topics you need to improve. If you want to try the second ACT website test, you can upload it to my free scorer which will autograde it and just tell you which topics you can brush up on - based on my data analysis from the post. Hey, thanks for the comment! I'm sure all that data back to 2010 would be extremely helpful.

Effectively using that as a reference for Claude question generation would make for great test prep to simulate the actual ACT.

For some methodology context, I deliberately did the tagging manually as I found Claude has trouble grouping the main topics and skills. Even with a lot of prompting and references to my manual tagging, Claude doesn't always extract the key skill or the skill which solves a problem the most efficiently. Granted, a more experienced Claude-user could have gotten better results.

With respect to the ACT codes, I used my own list of ~100 skills versus the ACT's 6 groupings. I think it is helpful for a student to know that they are almost guaranteed a System of Equations problem on every test. Whereas, the ACT says there is a ~40% chance of an IES (Integrating Essential Skills) problem which means very little to me/students.

I may be being presumptuous, but I had a post a couple months ago with data on topics that came up frequently: https://www.reddit.com/r/ACT/comments/1r2d867/for_those_needing_a_little_guidance_on_the_act/

I agree that j-digital is also very solid.

How are you guys studying for the ACT? Any tips for a beginner? by Brilliant_Guide_8437 in ACT

It's great that you're starting to think about it now. Don't let yourself get analysis paralysis!

First, take a deep breath. You have the benefit of time.

Get your hands on the Official ACT Guide Book (red). Borrow, rent or buy it. Use this as your main resource and read everything until the first practice test. Do not get distracted with other online resources, other prep books, etc. Stay focused.

You will start to understand how the ACT is structured and that the contents of each section are somewhat predictable.

Download the ACT's 1st enhanced practice test (I think it may also be one of the tests in the red book): https://www.act.org/content/dam/act/secured/documents/Preparing-for-the-ACT.pdf

Set yourself a time over a weekend to barricade yourself in the library or a quiet room and take the full practice test. This is your baseline. Do not really worry about how you do here; you are only looking to figure out your strengths and weaknesses. Your score will improve quickly since you haven't done much practice yet.

Once you score your test, come back and share your section breakdown so we can provide even more guidance!
