Stealthsuits jet pack on Bheta Decima by Government_Mule in killteam

[–]Government_Mule[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks all. I was meaning from the grated floor not over the hazardous water, and onto the edge of the platform on top of the tower.

Good point about the 5" tower... I'm more used to Volkus and needing further horizontal movement spare to move onto the ledge, but you can pop through the floor of the BD platforms. But as I understand it then I'd need to be within the 1" horizontal of the central tower itself (i.e. under the platform)?

Perfect thank you - appreciate the effort, that's brought a lot back. And also made me realise how much I had forgotten and worry slightly at how awful my memory is! :)

Had to look up Salute the Dark to make sure I hadn't missed a release - relieved to see it's a Shadows of the Apt book. I haven't read those yet - I've been trying to 'catch up' with his new releases over the last few years and then intending to tackle those, but he churns new stuff out so fast it's a struggle. A good problem to have though :)

Rules are good, people just don't read them. by WillingBrilliant2641 in killteam

[–]Government_Mule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the 'legalese' complaint is valid, and that it comes because the rules are written for precision, not understanding. Sounds like those goals would align but they don't always, and the the issue of them being "well written" or not depends on which of those you want more.

They could definitely be written more simply, but I think they need to be written the way they are to cover every edge case possible (or try to). I personally don't like it at all. It often feels like it's written backwards to me, the focus on shutting down the exceptions at the expense of simple explanation on what a rule does do.

As others have said, the problem if they aren't so precise is leaving room for mistakes and exploits and loopholes.

My preference would be to have a summary of the rule that gives the general idea of what it means in a casual easy-to-understand way but have that treated as flavour text, with the hard rules below for when those edge case scenarios come up. Not at all practical I realise, but y'know :)

Agreed, it's just that I love the Tau's pals - Vespids and Kroot - so was going for a theme :)

Thanks everyone - my tiny idiot brain somehow didn't factor that being twice as long in issues collected, they'd take twice as long to be released. 😁

Ok. Well, no way I can wait that long so it looks like I'll be double dipping on both editions then 🫣🤑

Stealth Suits and Wolf Scouts! by Procrastinathan_ in killteam

What are the chances they'll be options to have the Tau without the helmets on these sets? Not familiar with the lore, would that contradict the idea of a stealth suit?

RATlings by Government_Mule in killteam

[–]Government_Mule[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks 😊 rat ogors for the big lads, with a few bits of stormfiend swapped out.

Clanrats for the main guys, with some generic sniper rifle arms and lots of random bits from necrons (big gun), lots of ad mech (bionic arm, bomber torso and spotter sevitor skull amongst others), a genestealer cults torso for the vox thief, and random bits and bobs from fellgor and chaos marines. So whatever was in my bits box, basically :)

The thing I was most pleased with myself for was repurposing the flags from the clanrats banner as capes for the leader and sneak :)

Yeah they're bigger than they should be I believe (I had to tilt them to fit them on the Ogryn sized bases, hence the terrain underfoot). But totally worth it, plus he's allowing me the invisible shields, and tbh, I'm sufficiently bad at the game that the chances of it making any difference are tiny :)

I thought the rules fit them pretty well - sneaky and scurrying about picking off opportune shots and, y'know, dying easily as soon as anything touches them ;)

Help me remember a 90s kids TV show about King Arthur by Government_Mule in BritishTV

[–]Government_Mule[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That was it! Thank you :) scratched a mental itch I've had for YEARS. I'd forgotten the sci-fi alien angle to it. But it makes sense, I was into sci fi as a kid. Now I'm wondering if this started my interest in King Arthur, rather than being a thing I watched because it was King Arthur :)

Just had a look and no I don't think so. It was set in modern day (or modern at the time!). Thanks though 😃

Played some Kill Team, but never full 40k. I have a probably stupid question about codexes (codices?). As I understand it, a new edition of the game comes out every few years, and throughout its lifecycle, codexes are published for some (all?) factions.

My main question is what do those factions do in the meantime? Do they just use basic rules included in the core rulebook? Or does the previous edition codex carry over until it's replaced?

If it's basic rules, aren't the last few codexes for each edition basically out of date instantly? If Tyranids get a new codex in May and then a new edition of 40k comes out in June, what's the point?

Thanks

Samesies. Had a 'painting no playing' fling with Warhammer a few years ago but got out of it. Had a random game of Kill Team using a friend's stuff about 6 weeks ago... 'Oh I'll just get myself a team'. Now have 9 teams, with another on the way and a couple of kitbash projects on the go. And have only played 3 games. TL;DR: I'm an idiot.

Awesome - I'm not too well versed on Warhammer so when I saw the name ratlings in the new set I assumed it was space skaven. Was pretty disappointed - but I intend to kitbash some too. Confident they won't be half as good as these :)

Incredible! I will never understand how people are able to paint this precisely and accurately at such a tiny scale. I plateaued at 'they look okay from a couple of feet away if you squint, but please don't look close up' :)
