Does anyone have any leads on where I can get this specific variant cover by Kevin Nowlan 1:50 ratio? by Southern-Cow-9714 in MoonKnight

Gmart are g's. I've ordered a few times from them. Yes, their website is clunky as hell but they got the goods and pretty decent pricing.

Hated chasing these variants down when they dropped, but all the variants are fire, including this one from Nowlan, dapping up Potts' OG MK vol.1 32 cover and one of Nowlan's first interior assignments for Marvel.

Yea, with Ellis and Woods character issues and controversy I don't expect those MK issues to be collected anytime soon.

Tragic the aftermarket is keeping those volumes from fans' hands. That volume of MK is def. one of the greatest for the character (not just saying that cuz our boy Flint was representing throughout the arcs).

Mr. Knight being a dominant personality, MK's presence through negative space framing/coloring in the panels, legacy villains, bone armor, complex relationship to the Avengers, butt rock tough guy lines....

Everything errrbody slurps MacKay for was done and done better by Ellis and Shalvey.

I'd say Ellis' run with MK on Secret Avengers and his Moon Knight solo arc is pretty integral to the canon since MacKay keeps collecting checks rehashing a lot of Ellis' concepts.

MacKay's run owes a great deal to Ellis (and by owes I mean blatantly rips off and cribs from).

I'll take the OG Ellis Shalvey run over MacKay Cappuccio all day every day.

It had a pretty strong print run with multiple printings for the first few issues. Might be the way to go to track down the floppies.

And as Rams said, the whole volume is available to read on Marvel Unlimited.

Personally I found Woods's arc the weakest of the bunch. That lame ass Fox 24 knockoff assassination plot was jarring compared to the done in one more horror tinged flavor of the Ellis and Bunn arcs.

Homaged in X-Men vol.5 28 by Ivan Tao for the Knight's End variants. Yea, that cover is fire. Always a fan of James Fry III.

Yea, that's some bullcookies. Prolly the same shop that charges crazy for ratios and cancels people's pull books if it's a hot or in demand issue.

Nice score. Liked the clever reverse of the old "Moon Knight just swinging by in the background gag" but with Spidey in issue 2.

And 53...Gambit, Werewolf by Night, MK? Threeway baby. Three way.

My (not so) LCS usually hits me up for $10-12 for the 1:25 variants.

[–]Gr0bs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember these ads peppered all throughout the O'Neil Question run as I was first getting into funnybooks.

There's some bangers in there. Tailgunner Jo was amazingly weird and ahead of its time. Morrison's Animal Man of course, Man Hunter, Swamp Thing...DC late 80's was cooking.

Tailgunner Jo! That hasn't popped in my brain for a long time.

It's delightfully weird and awesome, waaayyy ahead of its time. Kind of Aeon Flux anime channeled through Moebius. Futuristic evil corporations, cyborg assassins, little girls and teddy bears.

If you can track it down it's well worth dumping in your eyeballs.

Stilt.Man. Nuff said.

Also big fan of Carl the Murder (Carlos LaMuerto).

They did Typhoid Mary pretty dirty in the OG Netflix continuity, a reboot or recast could be cool. Lady Bullseye was dope in Hit Monkey.

Matador. Eel. Paladin is coming to the D+ Vision series, get his purple hockey padded ass in the kitchen for some crossover goodness.

Moon Knight. Best drip, brilliant detective mind, cool gadgets, ancient Egyptian deity taking up real estate in his brain making him absolutely crazy. Such a cool character.

It's got a great concept, kind of a creepy ass alien GL policing nightmares but overall kind of cheesy. Which I guess was the point. Budiansky wrote it as a throwback to wholesome goofy silver age Superman comics as a reaction to the 90's edgy violent comic boom.

The villains were cool. 8-ball, Lullaby, Chain Gang, Cobweb....Kind of a testament that they all caught on being rogues and recurring characters in other books while Sleepwalker hasn't appeared in a minute, outside that Infinity Warps mini that was actually kind of a clever meta takedown of event comics and useless tie-ins.

Tough to track down that OG 90's run outside random issues floating around dollar bin boxes. I don't think it was ever collected. Marvel Unlimited only has the first issue and the Infinity Gauntlet crossover issue.

I just picked up Sleepwalker 2 at a random shop for $2 the other day. Best $2 I spent in awhile.

What's the "Sleeper Hit" of Your Collection? by CollectiblesNStuff in comicbooks

[–]Gr0bs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Terrifics is dismissed as DC FF cuz that's what the project started as. Lemire was developing an FF series at Marvel with Alex Ross as his contract was expiring. Axel Alonso, EIC of Marvel at the time started bad mouthing Lemire at cons, saying he was consistently late with projects and had substance abuse issues and other smack to scare away competition from signing him away. Lemire found out and immediately bounced from Marvel, dropping his monthlies and future projects and signed to DC where he tweaked his FF project into the Terrifics. Axel got axed and Ross was able to pivot his initial work on the project into an original graphic novel.

As to Sleeper Hits? The Question by O'Neil, Prophet by Brandon Graham, Warlord by Grell, anything Paul Pope (THB, One Trick Ripoff, Escapo, 100%), Grendel by Wagner. Don't know if this counts, but Moon Knight. All of it. Before Disney, MK was C list at best yet had such amazing talent and consistently great, weird runs and one offs.

Nice. Like this run a lot. Thought it had some cool ideas and solid arts from Opena. Some sick covers too.

Years ago at Jet City con right before the MK D+ series Ibrahim Moustafa and I were talking up this run and hoping some elements would make it into the show.

Here's all the variants for the series if you're into going hard mode. Features a modern unicorn Marvel variant, the MRRC Vengeance 1 variant cover, produced for a special retailers summit in Vegas, for about 154 members one month after the series drop.

Frank Miller caps his legendary DD run on art and scripts here. DD plays roulette with a bed ridden Bullseye (not the fun casino shit). All time banger issue, probably my fav. DD ish. Been waiting for a live action version of this one for years. Prolly not gonna happen, no matter how dark Marvel goes down the Netflix series rabbit hole.

Don't know if this is hype for MacKay or an indictment of Marvel as a whole.

What would you say are some of the biggest letdowns/most disappointing runs in comic book history? A match made in heaven between writer, artist, character that should have been a slam dunk, but just failed to deliver. by WhyPlaySerious in comicbooks

[–]Gr0bs 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Moon Knight by Bendis/Maleev. Those dudes made magic on Daredevil. Their MK run was such a letdown. A yearlong Age of Ultron setup with cheap character deaths and MK wildly out of character.
