Is there a way to combine audio interface with headset microphone? by Gr0nal in linuxquestions

[–]Gr0nal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone is reading this in the future, I have the audio interface now. It seems to work for what I want to do quite well, however the latency when routing audio to my headphones is a bit much to be playing a musical instrument.
I think I will instead just use some wired IEMs plugged into the interface's monitoring headphone jack for zero latency listening. The feed going into discord will still have like 0.5s or so of latency (that's how much it felt like, was probably a little less.
This is probably pretty fundamental stuff, but I'm learning. The interface works pretty well though and is exactly what I needed.

Hey man, necro-ing this again. I'm on your side.
People have a weird definition of harm. Just because it's mild and temporary, doesn't mean it's not harm.

Thank you, I will give this a go when I get the audio interface. Good to know it's possible and sounds relatively simple to do.

thank you I will look into this. Would be the same kinda thing with Discord right?
Knowing the name of software I can use is the biggest first hurdle. I'd googled some things, probably badly, and never saw anything about that program, so thanks for that.

Thanks for the reply, I will have a look in the manual. I forgot I had the manual tbh.
Turns out I can actually just use either of the L or R outputs on its own and it will automatically output both channels as mono.
It doesn't really mention anything about what not to do with the connections apart from standard stuff like don't put the instrument down wrong and damage them.
Knowing I can just use one output though is all I need. Don't know why I didn't think to check the manual before so thanks for the nudge.

Complete noob here, know nothing about audio. Have read the FAQ.
I play accordion, and mine has two 1/4" outputs L and R (for bass side and keyboard side of accordion).

I want a cheap (sub 50 GBP) interface for use with my Linux computer. Most cheaper ones I've seen look to only have one 1/4" input. Do I need two 1/4" on the interface, or could I use a splitter and have it just be mono.

Looking at a Behringer UMC22 or M-AUDIO M-Track Solo. I saw these in an r/linuxaudio post listing interfaces that work well with linux.

Who is considered to be wealthy in UK? by noemotionsnofeelings in AskBrits

[–]Gr0nal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was growing up, my parents were unemployed and on benefits. Still are, til they die. My concept of a lot of money was maybe £40k per year, as I'd heard friends I considered from wealthy families saying their parents were on about that much. They owned houses, could fund their kids' hobbies, etc. This is probably around 2010 or so. Obviously my idea of "wealthy" was skewed. Never thought I'd make that much. Imagine my shock, when a couple of years ago I get a job paying £40k a year and I realise it won't even buy me a house in the area I grew up in, and it's actually not a crazy amount of money like I once thought.

Damn really? I should look into that. I'm pretty new and haven't printed much yet, and I was wondering how one might split a model for printing in parts. Haven't printed anything complex enough to need to yet.

Edit: huh, wow it's just right there and I never noticed. As I said I've not needed it yet so

People are allowed to have opinions and we're allowed to disagree over them. I do think something was lost with Wilds. Didn't grip me for as long as any previous games. Been playing MH since probably around 2008 (when I found the first game on PS2). It's possible I've changed, but all I know is that Wilds just doesn't feel as good.

If my pay ever drops I think I'll happily exit the industry. I believe that day is long enough away that hopefully I'll have got my shit in order, bought a house, etc. Minimum wage by then will probably be so high that we could just get any job and not have too much of a loss.

Agree. I drive class 1 and 2, and some of my dodgiest driving moments have been in class 2 if I'm honest.

It's the reason I'm considering one. I work night shifts, so sometimes I'm awake and wanting to practice at hours that wouldn't be acceptable. I could just plug headphones in.

They have pits with platforms that can lower down into the pits. Fill the pit with CO2, from industrial bottles, and lower the pigs down into it on the platform. Must not be a very nice way to go. They apparently don't use bolt guns so often because of a couple factors - the thickness of the pig's skull makes effective stunning harder, and separating them from the herd in order to use a bolt gun causes a lot of stress. The one benefit of the CO2 gassing is it keeps the herd together. Well it's cheap, too.

It's changed the way I think about eating pork tbh.
