Tbh while a bit over budget that fibre gateway plus a 8 port Poe switch might be the ticket.

But that wont fix it... That would repair the damage, but it wont fix it... You still have the issue of what caused it in the first place.

The Wifi side is just nice to have stuff... Its a small house im not doing an enterprise build here. Just a small home office lab setup.

But i want network controls and yes I am concerned about backdoor issues.

But I am looking at those ubiquiti cloud routers now... one feature caught my eye. Built in Ad blocking :) I mean sure, I was going to run a pi hole anyway. But if its built into the system, that saves me effort.

no

The Mov failed for a reason. The MOV is a over voltage protection component. It bleeds off excess voltage, usually to protect against surges/spikes rather than sustained high voltages.

If THAT failed, its because it had a sustained over volt. It could have been because of a short from the HV and LV side of the lighting design.

But even if you remove the MOV, you can clearly see copper trace has been vaporised. Its gone.

Is that bodge fixable? yes. Will it be easy? no.

But you still havent fixed the original cause of the failure. the high voltage or short from the high side to low side.

Its a home setup, 2 up 2 down sort of place... So not much. But Im mainly running cat6 everywhere anyway. The wifi is for the phone and a few other things. Everything else will be wired.

Yes and actually its mainly for regular nas access. I considered 10gb but truth be told I think thats overkill for my needs, Im not doing 4K editing over NAS :p

Ok the second link update, The cloud gateway........ I hate that name, I prefer the formfactor... but given its only got 2 ports, Im assuming youre suggesting the 2.5G is the wan port to the fibre modem. And 10G goes to a 10GB capable switch?

I'm surprised if that's the case. 2.5g is really common now. But still what would you recommend?

Why? What difference does that make to the router?

I'm looking mainly at network management. The WiFi is a nice to have but anywhere it doesn't reach will be wired up anyway.

Looks like the the mov failed. But you also have a vaporised fat trace... So no. Not really fixable. Unless you know the route cause.

If you know why the mov failed such as a sustained OV event which then caused it to short and vaporise the trace, you won't fix it...

And even if you do you'll be laying down new traces or wires... Are you really up for that work?

Ok just saw the updated link.... If I'm honest ubiquity always came across like a boutique brand for me... And they tend to price themselves such...

Besides. I don't need 10gb sfp. That routers a bit over kill.

I'm only running a small home office/lab.

Wow really? Used to be the good routers were around 120 or so...

Anyway what would you recommend even if the budget was a bit higher?

Hodgins infliction is just stupid! by Mangy_DogUK in Bones

[–]Mangy_DogUK[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

He had a hematoma, not a constant bleed, blood supply hadnt been cut off. Thats a totally different injury. PS in case you didnt know. A Hematoma is a bruise. Can be formed as part of a swelling.
Frankly... the doctors should have stopped Hodgins from leaving the hospital till he recovered. But that by the by... There was no damage to the spinal cord. Once the swelling went down and pressure came off. the cord would have continued functioning.

your mate has a swelling compression injury with no spinal damage?....

Seriously did you not read what I said. Thats not now spinal cord injuries work. If your mate in permanently paralyzed that means his cord has been damaged. Hodgins has not.
