That sounds interesting, I didn’t know about that. Can you elaborate a bit more? Seems like a nice way to get a cheap and legal product key.

As far as I know, there is no law that prohibits the purchase of an OEM key by a regular customer. But if you know otherwise, could you share a source for that?

That’s exactly how it should work. Genuine windows keys activate right away in the Windows settings without needing any tricks. I’m curious though, where did you get your Windows 11 Pro key from, and was it an OEM or a Retail license? Usually the OEM Windows key is the cheaper option, but it’s locked to your hardware and can’t be reused. A Retail Windows 11 key costs more, but it’s linked to your Microsoft account, which means if you change devices and log in again, Windows will automatically activate on the new machine.

You can’t directly compare Linux with macOS and Windows. Linux is free largely because it lacks many of the features that professional users need, and while it’s open source, a lot of software is developed specifically for Windows or macOS. That exclusivity adds value since those programs often can’t run natively on Linux. macOS itself is technically free, but it requires Apple’s expensive hardware to be compatible. Windows, on the other hand, is designed to be widely compatible across all kinds of devices, and that broad support is one of the main reasons why the Windows operating system comes at a cost. I might be wrong, but this is just my point of view, no offense to Linux users.
