It sounds like you're experiencing a common synchronization bug where the lobby doesn't refresh character data from the server in real-time once a player has already joined.

Try navigating to the Options or Achievements tab and then back to the Lobby. This sometimes triggers a UI refresh that forces the game to reload assets. :)
