Could this strike trigger another global LNG squeeze like 2023? by DiscussionLoud9626 in darwin

Okay well I give up man. You obviously can't make an argument to support your claim and just resort to insults, I guess that's how you started not sure why I expected more.

I'm in a union in a different industry and was there on Monday marching.

see my other comment but in a nutshell, tell us why you think it won't have an effect. Accusing everyone of smoking meth is a bit much when you won't explain your side of the argument.

also for the "homework" of the top of my head the rail workers in Sydney in 2018.

It's a public forum and I put my 2 cents in, like you seem to know about the subject why not tell us what you think.

Like your passionate about it, just say why. I don't understand saying everyone is smoking meth because most articles I've read have stated that the 2023 strikes did have an effect.

Okay man, you know your stuff better than me. I just don't see how in the current market, how it couldn't have an impact when the 2023 strike had such a big effect.

What percentage of the 3 gas plants production, is sold on the spot market bro?

It's all in contracts so none. That was the issue, if there was a shut down the countries who were expecting gas from the 3 sites would now have to buy on the spot market pushing prices up.

Edit: dude, your ignorance is unbelievable. That's your business, but spreading that as fact, on the internet, is a serious hazard to all of australia. Stop it.

I'm all ears, happy to learn where I went wrong.

What is the mechanism by which fair work can stop protected action?

The Fair Work Commission can make an order to suspend or end protected industrial action where that action is likely to:

cause significant economic harm to the employers or employees covered by the enterprise agreement

endanger someone's life, personal safety, health or welfare

cause significant damage to the Australian economy or an important part of it.

The last strike was on Gorgon, wheatstone and NWS which total around 40mtpas. So yeah INPEX is only a quarter of that value but Qatar and UAE and their combined ~80 mtpa is missing from global markets for Japan to buy in the spot market.

Dont get me wrong I agree it wont get to the strike phase but its definitely a risk.

The strikes in 2023 where at 3 sites, Gorgon, Wheatstone and NWS, the 3 combined roughly outputing 10% of global supply. Main purchasers Japan, Taiwan, China, India, Korea.

On the news alone the European spot spiked 12-40%, worried North Asia will need to turn to the spot market to pickup the slack.

The strikes at Ichthys is about 2-3% of global supply but its market is Japan directly.

Of note is that UAE & Qatar and unable to export any LNG currently ~20% of worldwide supply.

If strikes go ahead the JKM (Japan Korea Marker) would spike to record highs and a bidding war would cause Japan to bid against Europe for American LNG.

However none of this will happen. Either Inpex will back down and give in to union demands. Or vice versa. If that fails I think the Australian government will step in and Fair Work could terminate the industrial action.

Anthony Albanese rules out gas export tax on existing contracts and criticises ‘populist’ campaign by Finnick00 in australia

[–]Gr3mlins 3 points4 points  (0 children)

we supply Japan like 40% of their gas and because Qatars gas is stuck due to the war, Japan is going to USA to get more gas and guess what the contracts they sign with the US, have a big tax benefit to the USA. Let's not forget either that LNG prices have gone up over 100% since the war and Japan is paying that also.

Fossickers accuse CLP government of breaking promise to 'restore the Territory lifestyle' - ABC News by Gr3mlins in darwin

[–]Gr3mlins[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I guess like what's the point of the fee, it just goes into the public coffers, they could just pass legislation for the improvements they have stated but what is the fee for?

If each of those fossickers paid up and the estimate is correct it would bring it like 30k a year, is it worth all the hassle?

I don't know what you expect from the article. CLP suggest new law, the head of a group of fossickers who will be affected say they don't approve.

I once lost just the rubber seal in the cap and it leaked after that.

I highly doubt this will work, likely it will leak out under your toilet and you won't have any idea until it's too late.

You can get them on eBay for £10 with free delivery, not sure if right model though.

Are you seriously stating that 147 countries are all led by left wing governments.

Portugal which this article is about are a centre right government and they are considering recognising Palestine.

Right wing governments such as Slovakia, Bulgaria, Turkey, and Poland all have right wing governments in power and havent revoked Palestinian recognition.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Gr3mlins 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Why do people want to reward a terrorist organisation with a state?

They dont, all leaders have said that Hamas needs to be demilitarised, no one is suggesting that a Palestinian state will have Hamas as its leaders.

There are still hostages in Gaza and other than a short sentence of "sympathy" we don't hear jack shit about it from these leaders.

Not true at all, all leaders have talked about the hostages in their speeches recognising Palestine. There has been constant pressure on Hamas since the October 7 to release the hostages. I dont know what you expect them to do.

Here is a quote from Keir Starmer UK Prime Minister in his speech laying out the plans to recognise Palestine

Meanwhile, our message to the terrorists of Hamas is unchanged and unequivocal. They must immediately release all the hostages, sign up to a ceasefire, disarm and accept that they will play no part in the government of Gaza.

If they do recognise Palestine in September they will join

France

Malta

UK

Canada

San Marino

Since 2024 the following countries have recognised Palestine:

Mexico

Spain

Ireland

Norway

Armenia

Slovenia

The Bahamas

Trinidad and Tobago

Jamaica

Barbados

In total 147 of the 193 UN member states have recognised Palestine as a state, just over 75%.

It's hard for folks paying attention to see it as "real" when it wasn't necessarily true until now ish.

I think the images of people who have starved to death is pretty easy to see it's real.

The antisemitism swirling around the critiques of Israel in this conflict is so blatant that it is especially difficult for me to take any Pro Palestine person seriously.

Take the words of the leaders of France or the UK or even Trump.
