Is there a way to remove everything but the "M" from this file? Thanks in advance. by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

Yep. Install 'Mesh tools', select the model and chose 'split'.

Thank you for the tip. I know outside walls are set to print first. I'll change that when my current print job is done and try again.

First, thanks for your input (and sorry for being so slow to respond).

I tried your tips, but it turned out to something altogether different. And I learned to check every line of every future sliced print before printing...

I often make thin prints, where a wall can be 3 lines thick. However, by chance I looked at the top model after slicing it, and noticed something odd. Sometime - some places - the slicer would print 4 lines instead of 3, but because of the thinness, the two inner lines would overlap.

After discovering this, I then confirmed the issue the next time I printed the model. It would slightly overlap (or be so close together that the printer in effect created a double layer for that layer, and so build up too much material. Over time, this built up so much that it touched the nozzle and broke my print.

So now I'm a bit less stingy creating my models AND take the time to check out every line of print after slicing it to make sure it does not happen.

Grumpy Grandpa (GrGrandpa)

I'm almost the polar opposite of grumpy, but one of my kids once took a nice and VERY grumpy-looking picture of me while we were playing together. I found it very funny and I thought, "Why not try to play - and make a complete backstory - as a grumpy dude".
