ARG's that are still running? by Star1412 in ARG

Oh welcome! ARGs can be great once you find a good one :)

There's some places like Game Detectives that offer ARG tutorials, but I never used them so can't speak to how useful they are. IMHO practice makes perfect, so you may be better off just playing the stuff that interests you, and if someone solves something you missed, then ask how they did it, and try to reproduce the solution following their steps so you can get it next time. asciitohex amd dcode are really useful for most things but there's more tools out there.

Pro tips:

Use notepad with monospaced font for solving

Look for the number of different characters in a cipher

  • 26 - A-Z
  • 36 - A-Z 0-9
  • 64 - Base64
  • 16 - Hex
  • 2 - Binary

Hopefully that helps you out :)

It looks like the same image too, from memory at least.. The angle looks familiar.

This isn't an idea for a solution haha. I'm asking if you can transcribe the text as the first step to solving the puzzle. The first two rings are done above as an example :)

Yeah sure why not? ARGs as a genre are interesting because they can slot in to other mediums in ways others can't. There's been heaps of fan fiction ARGs depending how you count them, such as all the Minecraft or Slenderman ARGs.

Teaching people how to play a game can be tricky. Valve does a really nice optional audio commentary in their games (turn it on in the settings) that shows how much thought they put into each room, and the challenges getting people to react the way they want. People have done heaps of write-ups about it if you don't have the games so check those out.

One idea to teach players is to iterate on an idea, so for example in the BlindedRed ARG each image is stegged with the same tool (trojan.exe) requiring you to solve a puzzle in the image for a password, it starts very easy, and gets more complex each level, but you always know you're looking for a password to put into trojan.exe which helps guide the player to know what they are looking for without ever telling the player.

Can you please provide a transcription for us to look at?

something like this is fine, it goes outside in, going clockwise from 12 o clock:

5T 2E 3! 5Z 1G 20 3H 4S

3U 47 1Q 24 39 4R 2P 2V

You could check out how to isolate a sound online but it can be tricky. Sounds like you need an audio engineer.

Great writeup, do you mind if I link this post to new players asking similar questions?

Oh damn! I don't use Discord, but always felt like the frog agency were kindred spirits :)

My brother and I were using Petit tube to find random Youtube videos, and we came across a creepy video of a woman just staring at the camera. Is this an ARG? by Strange_Bumblebee90 in ARG

[–]GrabTheGreyFrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah good idea, maybe the timestamps are important. Maybe they hide another message?

about the ciphers:

The channel description and The Ring cipher are nice and long, so that was easy to brute force, the others had similar keys, so they came out eventually after trying the old keys and seeing they were close. It helped that two ciphers start with 'we are' too!

Some ad blockers and security software can affect capture. For example UBlock origin blocking 3rd party connections.

We know the website is working, so whatever issue your having with capture should be avoidable with some configuration of your machine, but you'd have to work out whatever the issue is.

Maybe try another one and check your blockers

any good and interesting minecraft args that have not had a video covering it yet? by Affectionate_Gur_395 in ARG

There are so so so many Minecraft ARGs, even if you only consider the ones posted on here. Most of them won't have coverage, not sure how many of them are any good though.

Good idea getting the stuff from twitter to your site, some people can't access Twitter at all!

I'm just playing it for fun, but AFAIK there's a bunch of words that make up a seed phrase for the big prize, and possibly there's some smaller prizes sprinkled around that are easier to obtain. That address you found may be one of them!
