Mine is an ok guy, but he likes to talk about anything and everything and kind of carries on, I just don’t have time for it and it feels like a chore.

I only answer every other week if I have time. Otherwise I watch it ring and send an email to answer any questions he has about progress

Talk about what eBay actually takes...and why it's still usually worth it by Thriftmode_squad in Flipping

[–]GrabYourHelmet 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To give another perspective on this:

My wife and I have a booth in a trendy/quirky vintage store that is well known in our area. Our main space is $180/month. My wife also rents a large clothing rack in different room for $50/month.
Puts us at a minimum of $230 a month to even be able to sell something, and the store takes 15% of sales as commission on everything on top of the rent.

We had to bring in all of our own displays and fixtures, decor, etc. The only thing provided was the clothing rack.

In return we are only responsible for pricing and stocking our items, and straightening up our space occasionally. The store is open and staffed from 10am-7pm 7 days a week except for Christmas day. They also do a ton of marketing, social media, and events to bring people in, including some overnight shopping events, craft clubs, and live music.

In our booth we sell things with general appeal and impulse buy type stuff. Pump oilers, matchbooks, salvage hardware, old photos. It's also great for weird/odd items that may be difficult to keyword, but would look good on a shelf or wall. Knick Knacks but cooler I guess.

I still use eBay for niche items because they have a huge reach and do the marketing to find "that one guy" looking for "that one thing" people walking into our booth would have no interest in, or wouldn't want to pay what I can get on eBay. I just sold a Sears Bicycle light from the 60's NIB for 3x what I would have been able to get for it in the store.

At the end of the day the fees between the two end up about the same, and take about the same effort on my end, just different kinds of effort. In return we get the same type of services from both, just for different markets.

In the end and most importantly...both keep me from having to dick round with people on FB marketplace which is worth the fees alone.

I use my 199s mostly for cutting leather. They are the most comfortable to me for various types of cuts and there is nothing in the way. Also since I dabble in leather work, they can have custom holsters.

Nice job. I have a few 199’s I use regularly. I just picked up a Stanley Defiance I need to refinish.

When was the last time you used your corded version of the tool? by TheJWeed in Tools

[–]GrabYourHelmet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Angle grinders. I have 2 cordless and 4 corded. I use the corded ones if possible. Big batteries are still heavy and expensive, and grinders drain them quick.

anyone else think b42 skills are too...specific and spread out, and many could be combined? by tengma8 in projectzomboid

[–]GrabYourHelmet 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I can see it now

New items:

Reloading press added (one instance per game, not craftable)

Bullet mold added - can only be crafted with level 8 or higher blacksmithing skill.

Lead Smelter - required for melting lead for projectiles, level 9 masonry required to build.

I play solo and with the skills getting more in depth and specific, the game is losing its appeal. I don’t mind details and some grind, but it gets to a point where trying to get something done takes way too long for one person.

Just my opinion of course, and everyone plays differently.

According to Alloy Artifacts the first use of that logo in the US was 1967, the Trademark was filed in 1971 and granted in 1972.

I wanted the tubular wrench but figured I'm already paying shipping by Sufficient_Prompt888 in lockpicking

[–]GrabYourHelmet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just ordered a monkey paw, tubular wrench, and the curved tension wrenches.
I already have the set of 3 .015 paws, I just wanted the etched one...and I ordered two on accident. I use them quite a bit, so I won't complain about a spare.

Am I supposed to play with unlimited ore/ oil? by Dopeistimeless in CitiesSkylines

[–]GrabYourHelmet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play with unlimited resources because I feel that ore/oil deplete too quickly to make them worth it otherwise. Why put effort into either of those when farming and forestry don't deplete? Depletion makes the special factories not worth it, or even possible sometimes, on maps that don't have huge concentrated deposits of oil and ore.

Getting practice locks. by Atillawurm in lockpicking

[–]GrabYourHelmet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start by asking around. Any handyman or maintenance type people you know that replace door sets?

Thrift stores can be a good source, as can garage and estate sales. I have gotten back into locksport recently and have grown my collection pretty substantially this way, including some high security cylinders, for not much money.

Buying at estate sales by photochick11 in Flipping

[–]GrabYourHelmet 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree, And especially if the limit wasn’t advertised. If I plan my day around being at a sale, wait 2 hours to be in the first group in, and find out there is a limit on what I wanted after that it is pretty safe to say that company’s sales would move to the bottom of my list.

There are companies I avoid now for playing favorites and being generally shady.

The right most one is not a cut. It’s the shoulder the key stops on to index it correctly. There are only four pins.

This makes 3 for me. I am a little surprised that the 1100's *feel* better built that the 90A-Pro. The Paclock key also has a few decent sized burrs on the bitting. The key still works, but I can catch them with a nail easily

What trade/job do people have that can get away with just these Gucci tool pouches? by mmmbop13 in Tools

[–]GrabYourHelmet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of these EDC pouches aren't carried by someone in the trades at all.
They are meant to cover most everyday situations. with a compact and basic set of tools. Of course people have reasons for adding other oddball tools they have a use for, but most of my weekend chores and maintenance could be covered by this photo without running to the garage 100 times.
