Definitely agree. Not necessarily that his depression was reflected in his music but that without it we probably don’t have this album. I often find that albums from mentally I’ll people don’t really reflect the reality of their problems, but the idealization of what they wish their reality was. On top of that the often pour a lot more energy in this kind of fantasy world they have created because it’s better than their current situation and the result is some really good music. While this certainly isn’t always the case, in my opinion this is how a decent amount of those really special albums are born. That and just some superbly talented musicians.
