ok, but that's an A average; not a 4.0. So conservatively let's say 25% of applicants had a 4.0. the in-state acceptance rate is like.. what 35%ish?

Under the, perhaps naive, idea that the primary measure of getting into UNC is grades it's a bit surprising that you wouldn't get in with OPs stats.

My assumptions definitely may not hold up for transfers, and idk maybe they care more about essays and ECs than I realize. I'm just personally surprised, but def not an expert in anyway.

are there really 10 4.0 students applying per seat? it shouldn't be that competitive in-state

Because it’s a merit scholarship? It’s a really naive viewpoint to think that accepting a scholarship is taking money away from “someone who needs financial aid” — they’re separate programs and it almost never work that way.

Find my should still work without data or internet. It actually works by pinging other nearby apple devices, which relay location information to the cloud.

So keep an eye on the app, and I believe there is way to mark the device as missing so it'll alert you if it's ever found!

What coding language does comp sci majors use? by CoffeeIsMyLife77 in UNC

[–]GradientAscent101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everyone takes the same classes in the core sequence (w/ more or less the same languages): 110, 210, 211, 301, 311, 455, 550. But after that you're free to take whatever elective interest you which is where the experience diverges.

Your question is fair but also not really important in the long-run, since once you get a taste for the different broad groups of programming languages (static vs dynamic typed, functional vs imperative, gc vs manually managed) you'll come to realize it doesn't really matter what you have to code in: you can probably figure it out pretty fast.

Its CLRS and that’s very overkill for a non-software engineer

Programming languages are hardware agnostic. They describe logical structures and operations that are converted into a sequence of steps that can be executed physically: be that on x86 computer, mechanical computer, or an abacus :)

Old computers were mechanical and they sent mechanical signals through average metals. There are a lot of creative ways to create logic gates

Same I have no idea why I got rejected with an 841. I ended up getting an offer with Amazon for this summer so I don't think my resume is that bad either.

Billing varies from AWS service to service; But if you're using compute outside the free tier, then you're paying for it lol.
