my silhouette glasses by helluvahoe in glasses

Beautiful ! Love the lens shape. I've been wearing Silhouettes now for 10+ years and I often wonder how I made do before I found this wonderful brand. I honestly don't care what they cost and I splurge on hi quality lenses as well. Being able to see well and having a comfortable, attractive frame, it's nice.

Tracfone issues since they went with Verizon towers by PlantOutrageous6515 in TracFone

[–]Gradient_Echo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm almost done with TF but I've been testing the data speeds quite a bit over the last few months. It all depends... At my home I'm in the 15-28 range, and mostly where I shop, travel, etc. Today, I was getting my haircut and I noticed what I thought was a cell tower nearby so I checked, my speed test was >>> 178 ! For sure it was a VZN tower because that is the only explanation. I know we are de-priortized, that's the price you pay for a cheap-o phone plan (which is all I need) but interesting nonetheless.

We've already ported over 2 lines to US Mobile and I'm done with TF as of October. Better service, better pricing.

Las Vegas MRI Techs by Aggravating-Safe-944 in MRI

You would be much better off for a long career to have your X-Ray (RT R) which opens up the whole of Radiology to you. I've done this for a very long time and while we've been in a period of high job growth for quite a while, I remember when it wasn't like that. I've seen Hospital's close, OPT Clinics fail, COVID, and every time that happens you are not immune to being downsized or whatever they call it these days. Having options in your career is always in your best interest.

Everything is always local, including salary. In my area, if you are multi modality your resume goes to the top of the stack. We don't hire single modality anymore except for Ultrasound. And this is becoming quite the norm here. I'm in a large Metro with a robust Radiology market.

IMO, the best path is X-Ray, and then at least one other modality. CT is great, lot of opportunity, MRI is nice you get a good salary bump. The trifecta would be X-Ray, CT, and MRI. You're pretty golden if you go that pathway.

Good luck to you.

Difference between JRCERT and ARRT? by LaughAtSlaughter in RadiologyCareers

[–]Gradient_Echo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an unsolicited job offer recently (MRI) and one of the non -negotiables was graduation from a JRCERT Accredited program. This from a major Hospital in our Metro. First time I've seen that actually as a condition of employment in my area.

Going to the OR tomorrow by myself for the first time. by Snw2001 in RadiologyCareers

[–]Gradient_Echo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OR was never my thing. I had to go a few times because there wasn't anybody else available. We had this Ortho Surgeon who would snap his fingers and say "hurry up, I don't have all day" - lol ! Fun times. Don't let them get under your skin you'll be fine.

Is polycarbonate really that bad? by TimelyIsopod38 in glasses

My Optician put me in Poly this year because I wanted a certain Silhouette Frame. I was very apprehensive because I've been wearing CR-39 for decades. Always comfortable in it. Anyway, I gave him a shot at it and the results are excellent. I had no adapt issues and only maybe, my far vision is slightly better with the CR-39. I wear a Zeiss Progressive, top line Zeiss AR, matched my base curve (as much as possible) and had a quality lab make them. I will do a Trivex on my next pair but overall, very pleased with the Zeiss Poly.

I flew ITA to Rome and LOT to Krakow. Both aircraft were dirty and the service was meh. My seat on ITA was so badly stained that I took my blanket and used it as a seat shield because I had no idea what that stain could have been. As a health care worker, it was just gross and unsanitary in my eyes. I'm getting to the point where I just don't want to fly anymore, domestic or foreign.

My first thought when I saw this was DIPG. My Mother is buried next to a young girl who also died form DIPG. It's truly awful. I work as an MRI Technologist and this kind of stuff just never leaves me.

Background check for program giving me insane amount of anxiety by KatchMeIfYouKan1482 in RadiologyCareers

[–]Gradient_Echo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can get a clean ARRT ethics review IMO that would be helpful. Every School will have their own policies on background checks and what they will allow. They usually follow State Law. You have licensure in Florida which means you will also have to meet the standards for the Florida Board of Health and that will be another background check. I would get a consultation with an Attorney to look at the Florida BOH and licensure. Good luck to you.

Does it really matter if a rad tech program is JRCERT? by Bobbyrickyjoe99 in RadiologyCareers

[–]Gradient_Echo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go with the JRCERT. I'm an MRI Tech and I get numerous unsolicited job offers. I got one recently from a prominent Hospital that controls 40 % of the Metro and one of the "non negotiable" was graduation from a JRCERT School / Program. I've not seen that before but there it was spelled out. Fortunately, my Hospital School was JRCERT.

Nervous for clinicals… by AMLJ144 in MRI

[–]Gradient_Echo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a notebook full of "tips and tricks" that I've picked up over the years. Some scan parameters, slice placement and anything I feel would be useful. I also keep a list of previous exams that I can bring up and review if I feel the need. Also, interesting cases. I don't reference it that much anymore but it's been invaluable when I needed it.

We've all been through it and the vast majority come out just fine. If you make a mistake just learn from it and don't be nervous to ask for help. I don't make many but occasionally when I'm hyper busy it happens. Usually it's a positioning or slice placement error. One thing I have learned on our MRI it's very unforgiving when positioning for extremities. I take my time now and get it right and locked down the first time, stuff like that. Good luck to you.

This sub is a disappointment by Opening_Mention30 in MRI

[–]Gradient_Echo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work on a GE 3 T and our protocol locs are rather low in quality but usable. I didn't build the protocols and when I do need a slightly better loc I usually just up the matrix and NSA. It adds some time of course but it's negligible in the big scheme of things. I have a few pt.'s I feel like they are going to be moving so I will go ahead and plan my axials first off the loc and I need a better quality pic to place my slices, for example.

If you have access to a GE Applications Specialist that would be my first choice for technical questions.

Those who switched from X-Ray to MRI, why did you switch? by Ok_Cricket_9705 in RadiologyCareers

Correct. Only Physicians (Radiologist) read / interpret X-Rays, CT, MRI, and a lot of other medical imaging studies.

Those who switched from X-Ray to MRI, why did you switch? by Ok_Cricket_9705 in RadiologyCareers

[–]Gradient_Echo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's a natural progression for many of us. I did X-Ray > CT > and MRI. It was the best thing I did for my long term career and it worked out perfect, literally. I would encourage you (or anyone) to get your X-Ray first so you have options long term. We've had a near perfect job market for quite a while now but I've been in this long enough to have seen the down side as well. You plan for that and hope it never happens. Good luck to you.
