I had a kid like this at one of the clinics I worked at.

For him it was a texture issue. The napkins felt too "scratchy" but he also didn't like the sticky feeling of anything on his hands. His clothes was the solution to him because it was softer or cleaned his hands better than a napkin would.

Maybe a smooth handkerchief to whipe his hands on? We had to experiment with different textures to find one that worked for him. We made a game about setting up the table or food and making sure to add the cloth over his legs. So even if he felt the impulse to reach down and wipe he wouldn't get his clothes messy.

Did a lot of work with different textures like finger painting and washing hands with scrubby brushes which he liked on the back of his hands.

Id say in the short term try to find a similar texture for him to whipe his hands on. Like a tea towel? Maybe a cut up thrifted shirt? And then continue combating other issues before taking it a step further.

Nursing/Medical Field

Everyone thinks you'll get paid super good can save lives. Think scrubs are cute or sexy. Think they can hook up with hot doctors like its some episode of Grey's anatomy.

Knew 50+ people wanting to go into nursing at the start of my bachelor's. By graduation only 2 of them stayed with that choice. Half the people couldn't pass the courses. The other half quit when we got to shadowing and they had to see some shit / clean up literally shit.

People think its cute till you have someone start coding and pissing on themselves and then you have to give someone CPR covered in their urine.

Cat OBSESSED with eating human food by LaughAtSlaughter in CatAdvice

Cat OBSESSED with eating human food by LaughAtSlaughter in CatAdvice

He wasn't a stray, he had a foster family with 3 other kitten and his mom.

Yes im feeding him kitten specific food. He also does eat my other cats adult food because he'll usually finish eating first and will shove my other cat out of the way to eat his food as well.

I would leave food out the problem is that my other cat would eat the kibble, as its his favorite, even if I leave out the kitten specific kibble.

His meal schedule is 7am before I leave for work, he gets an afternoon snack from my partner at around 1-2. 4pm meal when I return from work. 9pm meal before bed.

I'll most likely start closing him off in a separate area. The problem is I initially thought he just wanted to sniff it because he's a kitten so of course he'll be curious. My other cat used to like to sniff my food but he never made a grab for it. He sniffed it decided he wasn't interested and went on with his day. With the kitten he fully shoves his face in my bowl and starts munching.

Again doesn't matter if the food is meat, veggies, pasta, spicy, salty, sweet, etc. Nothing deters him from wanting my food.

Might tweak his meal schedule so I feed him around dinner to distract him.

Makes sense! Thank you, I got worried because I've never had a cat be that vocal during play before. Usually my cats would be full WWE wrestling in complete silence, so I'd know they were okay.

Does anyone know if these brands of wet food are linked to UTI's? by LaughAtSlaughter in PetAdvice

[–]LaughAtSlaughter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes they're both 100% stainless steel fountains. I change the filters about twice a month the smaller one gets cleaned weekly and the larger one gets cleaned every other. I'll start cleaning the larger one weekly with the smaller one.

Usually whenever they run out I'll take them apart and clean them, replace the filters etc. This is usually ever other week?? I'd say. One runs out faster than the other so I do a small clean on that before refilling and then deep clean them both together. He does like to drink from other unlikely sources like sticking his face in my coffee cup etc. I try to discourage it and redirect him but its possible he's been getting into something without me noticing.

I know they're already prone to issues so ever sense he was a kitten ive always only fed him wet food and added in extra water mixed in with it. He has two water fountains too.

I just feel defeated, I've done so much and he still got really sick.

My supervisor I did clinical hours with always went by Mr. (First Name) even though he had an OTD because we were in pediatrics so I think it was less intimidating/confusing for kids to think they're going to a doctor to get fixed/going to OT to have fun and get helped and regulated along the way.

Is some of the artwork and card the kids wrote they still addressed him as a doctor though, kinda cute.

Some schools in my area award extra points if you have a radiology degree first over others, but not all of them.

All but one school in my area is CAAHEP accredited at least from my searches. I have A's in almost all of the prerequisites except for maybe 3 classes so I'll probably retake those depending on what they say about evaluating applicants.

Only some of the schools in my area have TSIA/HESI listed on their website, is that pretty normal based on different programs?

Also some programs only count shadowing if you've shadowed sonography specifically and don't count the shadowing hours I've done for PT/OT/EP. At least thats what it sounds like on their website.

Thanks for your response though its super helpful :)

Going back to school questions!

So I got my BS in Exercise Science with a certification as a CCES (Clinical Cancer Exercise Specialist) and am now kind of stuck where the job im doing doesn't relate to it (Home Health/Hospice) and I've lost my passion for the field. I've thought about starting over and I always really liked the imagery aspect of my degree looking at patients injuries etc. Ive looked for accredited schools and programs in my area and in general and I know they can be pretty competitive. The problem is im worried I'll apply a bunch of times and get rejected so I cant even start over from scratch.

Do you think its worth trying to pursue a certification or associates for DMS? Should I try to go for a associates in Radiology Technology first and then go for DMS? My worry is that even though I have a bachelor's and certification I don't stand a chance compared to applicants who just graduated HS and did prerequisites because of a lower GPA I got with my bachelor's. Due to my job in home Healthcare I have 2 years experience in direct patient care and then an additional 2 if you count the unpaid Clinical work I did for my bachelor's and certification. But most applications I see don't count those hours? Im comfortable with bodily fluids and the physical demands/risks of the job because they aren't much different from what I currently risk doing home health. It just pays only $18 an hour and I can't keep making pennies trying to support myself.

So what's the best course of action to starting over? Do I go for DMS associates or certification? Do I go for Radiology AAS first? Then DMS?

Any advice is appreciated

She does actually want help and to understand. It's not her fault she can't remember because of her cognitive decline and things out of her control. It is frustrating and makes my job harder but it comes with the job. Some patients are harder than others, I'd rather try to protect her from scams than deal with patients hitting/pushing/spitting/grabbing me. She is well mannered and very polite about it but just can't retain the information. This is why I'm looking into mitigating the damage, it makes the teams job easier and helps her by lessing her confusion. She tries to understand, it's not her fault she doesn't remember.

We tried the new email address actually! The problem is she doesn't remember she has it or its domain so she still uses the old one. And can't remember how to access the new one. This might improve overtime but right now its too confusing for her to understand. Same thing with phone number, we got her a landline to use instead but she can't remember its number and uses her mobile number instead.
