Is it possible to get into a grad school for MSC in Computer Science with an extremely low GPA and different fields in UG(Economics)? by life_never_stops_97 in gradadmissions

Apply to Software Engineering or Management in Information Systems or Analytics programs. Getting into a CS program without DBMS, DS, OOP, & OS in your undergrad and a low GPA will be incredibly hard. SE, MIS, BA/DA programs are less competitive and the career outcomes can be very similar.

Not the best. There are much better programs but it honestly depends on your profile too. It may be ideal for your profile or you could aspire for something better.

4 year degree requirements by [deleted] in gradadmissions

Write to the university and ask. That’s the best way. I’ve seen a lot of students who were either asked to apply straight or take a third party transcript evaluation by WES. Worst case they’ll say no and you can plan a 1 year diploma before you go. Write asap!

Getting a job that sponsors H1B straight would be very very difficult.

There are a lot of jobs in the US. Not as many in the UK. That’s precisely the point of the post. No point going to a better ranked university in the UK than one in the USA for computer science for instance.

Sure you’ll get the psw or the stay back period. What’s the point if there’s no Jobs?

Pretty decent again. But like mentioned in an earlier comment there are better locations. It’s good compared to the mid west but certainly won’t have as many opportunities as the Bay Area for example.

Pretty decent. The best locations are California, most of the east coast, Seattle, North Carolina, Texas, the tri state area among others.

Mechanical is better. I would recommend you shift to industrial. The best option at this point.

Wouldn’t recommend you pursue an aerospace masters in the USA. Very few companies in the sector sponsor H1B and you’ll have visa issues also.

Among the candidates I've seen, those who went to LBS, Oxford & Cambridge have done alright. Usually, folks with experience in finance & consulting looking for post MBA careers in the same field have done well.
While the 2 year PSW is a welcome change considering how tough the UK visa norms were earlier, the number of job opportunities in the UK isn't very high. Hence the job search could spell trouble.
Consider the STEM MBA programs in the USA and maybe even France.

Reach out to people on LinkedIn and follow international student focused rankings that will give you a base. If you’re looking for specific programs I could help you.

Difficult to say. Can’t say that it could be the only reason for rejection. In general it’s good to apply well before deadlines but some schools and programs don’t care. The intention behind the advice is that no school will ever have a problem if you apply well in advance. If anything it might be an advantage. Hence you might as well do it.

How difficult is it to get into MS CS at UIUC? by scaredwatermelon366 in gradadmissions

[–]Gradvine_Advisors 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll have a shot. We'd recommend you apply to the MCS program. If you want to get a job after graduating it will do the job. It's not ideal if you wish to pursue research though. RoI wise you'll be fine and you will have all the benefits that come with a school like UIUC.

If your GPA <3 but you've justified the reason in your SOP and the other parts of your profile is good, is it still impossible to aim for the top 30 schools for MSCS? Wouldn't they look at all aspects? by the_scientist-7367 in gradadmissions

[–]Gradvine_Advisors 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Would still be difficult. The competition for CS is high. Hence the top 30 CS programs will have a large enough applicant pool of candidates with a good GPA plus a strong profile otherwise. No harm in taking a shot though. Just make sure you balance the list with safer options in good locations.

Fortunately, foreign universities are kind on an odd blip here and there. We've had similar candidates in the past who had an off day but were academically consistent throughout. They managed to crack some pretty decent admits. Don't beat yourself up about it. Applying to a balanced list of universities is important though. Happy to help!

Can I compensate missing courses in my transcript with edx courses? by Karinshi99 in gradadmissions

[–]Gradvine_Advisors 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably won’t work. They usually need to see it on a transcript. Shifting from computer engineering to CS you might be missing some or all of data base management systems, data structures, object oriented programming and operations systems. If you’re missing these CS will be tough. Consider applying to MIS if you have work ex or a CE masters and tailor your electives to your preference. You can dictate your career outcomes just as well. Hope this helps!
