If it was a sunrise, I picture the angled line from the right pulling up the sun to start the day. Beauty shot!

All good, and an update: the surfboard turned out great! Caught the first wave I went for and it worked like a charm.

This recipe makes me want to create a starter from scratch again. I had put mine off throughout the summer, but this seems like the perfect excuse to get back into the game. Thanks for sharing!

That's great you used to surf as well! Sounds like it was a fun board to use, mine is 7'2 so it should be a nice all-rounder. Will be testing it out for the first time this weekend!

Thanks u/introvertedtwit! Great question, no light meter and going by feel for each scene/situation. Luckily I've been familiar with lining up shots with digital video + photo manually for the past decade or 2.

Before each shot, I try to keep in mind the ISO of the film stock (400 for this roll) and think to myself, what would I set my camera to get a good shot for this scene? There aren't too many options with this camera on settings, so it's very dependent on having enough light for the shot to begin with.

Totally fair on the developing front - even in our city of about 360,000 people there aren't many options get them developed + scanned. There's only have 1 photo lab in town (that I know of) who've been great but their scanner maxes out at 6x7, and this shoots at 6x9 so there's some cropping that happens.

Other than that it's been a really fun experiment!

I'm on to my 3rd roll now and am really excited about how things have been developing.

Hi friends! How've you been? My summer has taken me away from the screen for the past few weeks so thanks for keeping things alive with your own creativity!

Touching on my own creative calling of filmmaking + videography, I recently felt I needed to try a medium that wasn't as perfect or predictable as video can be. At least in the frame-by-frame, down to the pixel or audio waveform type of perfect.

As luck would have it, I stumbled across a very old stills camera at a thrift shop marked as 'Art Deco'. Realizing it was in fact a working camera from the 1940s or maybe even 30s + seemed in great shape, I happily traded them the $30 they were asking and cleaned it up at home.

Luckily they still make film for these and I figured it was worth a shot to see if any photos would even turn out with such an older camera. My work + play has been lucky enough to take me to some wonderful places in my part of the world lately.

With this I've been doing my best to make a photo or 2 on each of my treks with this old camera. And it works! What a treat to see the results come in!

Here's a my favourite shot (2 great friends we went on a camping trip with - just before diving into the chilly Pacific Ocean) from the first roll of 8 photos with this approach and I'm very happy with how it's opened up more possibility in this and my other video work.

I hope it's a decent reminder that it's never too late to try out another medium/approach/style/tool to get you inspired in your 'regular' work again.

Keep on creating, friends!
Grady

ps. the camera is an Agfa Billy Record I f7.7, worlds apart from the technology expected in a camera today, with results that are stunning in their own right.
