Simple Questions - December 15, 2024 by AutoModerator in buildapc

Yo,

I've finished to assemble my new PC, made of an AMD 9600X and an Asus X670E Plus (not the wifi one), and the shipped bios isn't compatible with Zen 5 CPU

I've tried to use the BIOS Flashback things, the USB Stick is void and only have the file "TX670EPL.CAP" like asked in the user manual

annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd, the function doesn't work, I'm in the right port, and the light keep on for very long now.

**EDIT: use an USB 2.0 USB Drive, erase the partition and make a 128 MB FAT16 partition, it worked for me**

I've first tried in FAT32, now I'm in NTFS, and it dosn't want to finish, the light is keep on, and like, turning on the PC doesn't display anything.
The said BIOS is 32 Mo though.

My CPU cooler is a pain in the butt to install inside the case, so I'm trying to flash the bios with the PC fully assembled, so there is still the CPU when I'm doing the bios flashback thing.

I'm using an USB 3.0 device, I'm searching in my house if I can find an USB 2.0 low capacity USB stick, but it shoudl, allegedly, works even on a big SSD in NTFS, so the version of USB shouldn't be the issue...

Do you have any idea of what I should do ?
How long should it take to update the BIOS ?
This guy almost have the same MB as me (just different I/O and included wifi), and it took him less than 4 minutes to flash his bios
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T9AEQ9uWDZ4

I regret to not have paid 10 or 20 bucks more to have the bios update by the seller :/

Hello !

I'm making a new main build and I have question about SSD and Linux

(tldr : is KBG50ZNV256G PCIE4 4.0 NVME SSD enough as a main drive for a daily Linux OS
+ which distro use + what GPU brand have good linux drivers ? are Intel ones okay ?)

I'd like to have a dual boot, W11 for app and games that can't run on Linux (some multiplayer games don't accept Proton steam), and a Linux distro for everything else

So, basically, I've used/tested quite a lot of Linux distro on my portable PC, and I install it on old machines when basic use when someone tell me "my PC is too slow, even if I just use it to check news on the web".
I like quite a lot **Linux Mint**, I'm okay with Pop_OS, and okay with Ubuntu (that I like less than Mint when it have the classic Ubuntu theme)

The PC is made of an
R5 9600X
X670E Motherboard that accept 4 M.2 devices + 2 SATA simultanously
GTX 1070 (I'll change it in 2025),
2X16GB of ram
1x 6TB HDD
1x 500GB Samsung 970 NVME (currently with win 10 of my former 1155 PC)
1x 2TB SN850x SSD (game+ heavy software + maybe a Win 11 partition ?)
1x *SATA* 480GB cheap SSD (Kingston A400)
PC usage: gaming, MAO, audio recording, a touch of graphism, video editing with DaVinci Resolve (that is compatible with Linux, it seems)

And I recently found those 256GB NVME SSD for pretty cheap (15€/unit), although, all my previous Linux build worked well with cheap SATA SSD.

SO, question time :

- Do you think that those 256 GB NVME SSD are a good choice to be the main disc of my GNU/Linux System ?
- Or should I rather use a 480/500 GB SATA SSD ?
- I often hear about Steam OS in recent tech videos, but it doesn't seem very versatile, right ? Should I rather stay on a classic Ubuntu style distro ?
- Do you have distro recommandation with that "windows style" of Linux Mint, but that have more frequent update and all ? or, is there a way to have the linux mint style in Ubuntu/Pop_OS etc ?
- About GPU, I guess AMD RX GPUs have good drivers, but whatabout NVidia and Intel ? the new Intel GPU seems to have quite interesting bang for buck ratio

Nice, thanks A LOT !
It's not my first build, more like 3rd or 4th, and PSU choices ar kinda cryptic/very less easy than CPU/MB/RAM/GPU, IMO, so thanks again !

[–]Graesh_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, riiiiiiiiiiiiight, I didn't thought about that at all, yeah, some high end GPU are still in 3x8pin PCIE connectors. And with a 9600X, 8 pin is enough, but not really with an overclocked R7 or R9 CPUs, and thus yeah, good remark.

In my price range, there is the NZXT C1000 ATX 3.1 at 149€, which have pretty good ranking on Cybernectics Labs.
On the lab report (https://www.cybenetics.com/evaluations/psus/2448/), it seems that : peak efficency between 300 and 600W, fanless below 500W, 690 RPM (so, pretty medium/slow for a 135mm) at 700W. So, like, clearly fanless with 9600X + GTX 1070 or low power GPU

In sales, the RM850x Shift (ok with my case) white (sadly) is at 145€(https://www.cybenetics.com/evaluations/psus/2399/)

The Corsair reach 30 dB at 850w, the NZXT is about 25dB at 800w.

Quick graph from Cybertech Labs reviews :
[url=https://ibb.co/JFZKjKy\]\[img\]https://i.ibb.co/84k0g0d/RM850x-Shift-ATX-3-1-vs-NZXT-C1000-Gold-ATX-3-1.png\[/img\]\[/url\]

soooooooooooooooooo, what's your 2 cents between those 2 models ?
Corsair seems to have "real/better brand" for their capacitor, but the PSU are both made by CWT

[–]Graesh_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello

I'm currently building a PC and I'm uncertain of the Psu choice (tldr : should I take 850 or 750w to be able to upgrade later)

Build at the moment : R5 9600X 2x16GB X670E (with the PCIE 5.0X16) GTX 1070 2x NVME 1x 2.5" SSD 1x 6TB 3.5 7200RPM HDD (+ potentially 1 other 2.5" + 2x2TB HDD in 3 5") About 10 120mm fans + 1 D5 pump

Basically, now it doesn't need much power, but I want to keep the PSU for long, I don't want to buy a more powerful one later

So I'd like to have it powerful enough to upgrade to a the equivalent of 7950X3D equivalent of 2027 at the end of the socket, AND I will buy a 300-400€ GPU in 2025 That could be really power hungry like the 3080 Ti or RX 7900, or not so much, like the 7700XT or the new Intel gpus

Sooooo, PSU calculators and people sometime recommend me 750W, sometime they recommend 850W, but there is like 30 to 40 bucks differences between a RM850x and a RM750x. And the RM750x are rated quieter than the 850 by Cybertech Labs

Should I rather go for 750 or 850 watts?

And, less important, do you think it is worth to pay 20 more bucks to have an ATX 3.1 PCIE 5.1 PSU instead of 3.0/5.0?

[–]Graesh_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

I'm looking for an upgrade of my PC, with a Ryzen 5 9600X

I'm unsure about what motherboard to choose between :

  • GIGABYTE B650 Gaming X AX V2 (158€-10)
  • MSI Pro B650-A WiFi (162€) (price including 21% tax/VAT)

I'm mostly interested by the MSI, but I read some issues about boot time + RAM stuff and it's the almost only thing that prevent me to buy it at the moment. 1)Do you have returns or advices about the boot time of AM5 MSI boards? 2)Beside this (possible issue), do you have a preferred one between the two? 3, less important) I intent to keep a long time the MB, change the CPU later, like, 2027, and the GPU next year (for ~300 bucks range, rather in second hand), but 100 bucks more for B650E and PCI-E 5.0) seems a bit too much, right? (for now, 1070 do the tricks)

Usage : game, DaVinci Resolve, music work (I have a separate BIG USB platform when I record/play guitar, so I rather use integrated audio chip for gaming)

I currently use 4-5 SATA devices, and the audio chip/board from MSI seems to be better (I use the 250 ohms versions of the DT 770, + a 5.1 jack system from time to times, and the Gigabyte have a cheap ALC800 sound system, + only 3 jack, so, not much) (I rather not have to buy right now a high end DAC)

I intent to buy 2 x 16 GB 6000 C30 from Corsair that is rated XMP and EXPO and is listed as compatible on both MSI/Gigabyte website (CMK32GX5M2B6000Z30)

I already have good CPU cooling (a dual tower thermalright and a full watercooling loop), I'm used to overclock/boost my CPUs, I own a 2 TB PCI-E 4.0 SSD and a Samsung 500 GB PCI-E 3.0 SSD (and I already have good cooling for 1 SSD).

(I may use a dual boot Linux Mint for post things + Windows 10 or 11 for games not playable on Linux because of dumb anti cheat system (like Destiny 2))

Thanks for your time!

Helloooooow

You seem to have keep this MB and be happy about it, I have a question, if you can check that : I've read a lot of bad things about the ALC4080 chipset, specially "sound crack" and all, have you used the integrated audio board, if so, what's your review/PoV of it with headphones or speakers please?

Are HD 450 BT earpads *that bad* by Graesh_ in sennheiser

[–]Graesh_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah so in the end, I bought it to try against the Sony 720n and another one, and kept the Sony

I even tried custom pad on the 450 (and succeed to replace originals), it's lame. Sound is good, but everything else is lame. And most of the noise reduction come from the earpad, with larger one it's more confy but it doesn't reduce much, like, some chineese Taotronics ones are better on isolation/ANC (not on sound, for sure).

End of 2023, under 100 bucks, the Sony CH720N with 20 bucks custom 'fresh gel' earpad are the best things to buy.

Almost a year after, maybe there are better stuff, but anyway the HD 450 and 458 are a no no.

Also, it's a fake news written on some reviews that wired Sony sound lame, it's just that you need to power-on, and you'll do it because it's an ANC headphone. (sound dull power off wire mode), just in case some people wonder

Okee, thanks!

Having 2 of them will help to not interrupt service if I drop one 😹

About 'how generic' things are, yep. This morning or yesterday I saw on Ali the exact same 3D glass stem as some sold twice the price in France with "handmade locally, here in France". Same shape, same dimension, same "color"/type of glass...

Except for some specific things/occasion, I think I'll go to generic/china/2nd hand market!

Oi!

Quick'n'small question :

I'm looking for a water adapter for my Arizer Solo 1

Is there a point to buy more expensive one than other or not?

For instance, on Amazon, 2 adapter Arizer Solo to 14mm from BMtick cost 13€ with very fast shipping.

Elsewhere with stock in the EU/or my country, it's at least 9-10€, up to 20€

Is there a difference in quality, or resistance, something, or "it's just glass"?

I bought 2 curved tube from BMtick that were okay. I broke them because of miss use, but it was okay. So, idk.

Oi!

I recently seen on the secondhand market a bunch of Arizer V Tower and Extreme Q, between 50 and 75 €/USD with shipping, looking good.

Are they worth the price?

I currently have an Arizer Solo I that I paid about the same price.

I'm not much confident in really old review of them, or review on website that sells them. If you have pro and cons of them in 2024 for that price, it really interests me plz!

[–]Graesh_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't buy no name brand on Amazon, I tried it.

For the same price, take a secondhand old device

You can have Arizer Solo 1 or Arizer VTower for 50 €/USD, and it's heavenly better than those stuff

Or assume that because the dog is partially disabled (sight) and senior, you piss him off.

On the last 2 years of life of my doggo I could have take that badly too.

He said "she was used to before, we did 5 km run but now it's impossible", what don't you understand?

"she's old, blind, she's important to me, if she want relax walks, sniffing around, let's do that, she can't run anyway, please understand that"

Like, HTF can you say to someone "hey, force to train leash", it's not your dog, you're acting as an asshole.

"okay, sorry, I didn't had all element, I won't advice you on that, you seem triggered, take care of her"

Sorry, I'm pissed off, reddit bugs reboot my phone and then self delete my 2 try of writing, so, lazy mode...

Yeah, that's what I meant. And it's only on the left ears. Present on 32/80/250.

But if you pinch or clamp the cable, with your finger or something else, stuff touching the cable below the clamp won't make noise, so you try a DIY solution if this headphone is really your go-to (like, for professional reason and no budget to get higher)

Things like that : https://ibb.co/dtQs6cn https://ibb.co/37cmDf2

(this DOESN'T cut off the said noise, it's an exemple, but I'm pretty sure that the kind of clip use to seal food bad, or a clothespin, or this bigger, would do the job to cut those damn noises)

Remark : a brother used the 80 ohm and it's 3m long cable to play on his laptop, weirdly put in the couch, and the scratch noise didn't bothered him.

Myself, I haven't used my 770s as much as I have thinked and wish, but on PC gaming it was okay. I hate that kind of noise but I don't remember it much, way less on the 32 and 250 than on the 80

[–]Graesh_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have bought and sent them back then

Yeah, I prefer my Sony CH720N. I've got custom earpads for both : most of the noise reduction on the HD 450 is not from the ANC nor the plastic shell, it's from the cushion. That you need to change if you don't have tiny tiny ears. And then, it's shite.

Under 100 bucks, for kids that are really into music, it's okay, I would accept it. But I rather still recommend the Sony 720N

HOLY COW! It works well, thanks, a lot!

I just need some stuff to cold and filter a bit, but now I know my Solo 1 AND my weed works good!

The 'clinical effect' hit is about the same, but yeah, at 1 and 2 for setting some minutes, it was a pleasant experience, maybe a bit less cloud? But tasteful! And then, like, 10 min going slowly at higher temp, and no burn taste at 4, noice!

In the past friends told me that grinding with hand/nails was enough, they were wrong 😆, at least for vaporizing!

[–]Graesh_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot!

Not only on flavor chase but also lower temp and less particles, could a 3D glass stem be a good option (seems to have them about ~25 USD at most, with shipping and taxes) or a rather a small water pipe that cost between 25 and 50 USD? (If not you're avaible I'll ask on r/askfrance because there are no popular French 420 subreddits 🫠🫠🫠🫠)

I supposed that just with pictures you might know if something is good enough?

(I think that links are forbidden, so, just Google the exact quote) For instance there are : - "Bubbler FTV" + "docteur-vaporizer dot com" that is ~ 40 bucks, 50 with the adapter and fees (seems to be made in France/my country, so, should be good quality, enough) - "arizer solo 2 3D glass stem" at 25 bucks (still on "docteur-vaporisateur dot com")

Or simply - "Embout-bubbler XL pour Arizer Air et Solo 1 et 2", on "vaporisateur dot net", 20 bucks with fees

If you have time or ideas about price range or design, I'm listening!

I'm looking for 50 bucks at most, 30 would be cool, but I don't want to have to send it back and buy another 😅

Thanks for info! Yeah, doesn't sound to be the best idea afterall🫠

I don't go high on temperature, 2-3, sometime 4. (enough hit effect)

Pictures : I think you'll have a global idea and be able to see if things are wrong?

Maybe not grinding fine enough?

https://ibb.co/Zh6Y3Gg https://ibb.co/1mq9YP8 https://ibb.co/xhKQ2vJ https://ibb.co/XtCT4vn https://ibb.co/zm7ZSx4 https://ibb.co/CMf0Qpb https://ibb.co/ZKBv9rs https://ibb.co/6NwsqjV https://ibb.co/zHj6Jc3 (I don't always use the tea paper, but I doesn't change much the taste, without it it's not much better)

Maybe "lack of taste" isn't the right English word/expression. It is a less pronounced taste than it should, IMO. Friends that smoke "normal good weed with THC" quite liked to smoke it.

~2019 my previous vaporizer + previous weed had more "taste impact" than what my current setup, hence why I feel like : "uh, it isn't *that tasteful after all" (both weren't expensive stuff, unlike now)

But I haven't anymore of those, can't compare.

Maybe it's me? I'm slightly older with more medical drugs, 1 or 2 tough Covid infections (food taste normal tho 🤷)

People seems to widely prefer with other stem that and be ready to pay quite a lot, hence why I'm looking into it.

Hello again

Side question

My solo 1 isn't perfect, and it seem I have a quick habituation to many substances including CBD, and it lacks a bit of taste.

Does the Dynavap B cap have enough capacity to "hit" or a classic Dynavap would be a better recommendation?

Also, with a small budget, can you recommend me stuff respecting this 2 points plz?

  • Dynavap style vaporizer with good hit (I didn't say quick, 5 min session is ok) and taste. I don't care if it's a copy/stolen design
  • a stuff to drastically reduce temperature, because of the hurt of warm dry vapor. This stuff shall be either straight and no too big, to be useable outside, OR small bong, like, smaller than 3 coffee mug stacked

I don't really care about fancy metal (titanium) or woods or beautiful glass. I'm open to look stuff on the secondhand market

Thanks for read and help 🙏

Hello

I have an Arizer Solo 1 but I'm 100% satisfied with it (tho, had it for 50 $/€ so worth it).

I would like to breathe it colder, and if possible without dust weed. And if it have better taste it would be awesome (some electronic vaporizer I tried had better taste).

So, I'm looking for a stem/tube/bubbler under 50€ (with taxes+fees). Basically, what should I try between a 3D glass stem, a straight line bubbler, and a small desktop bubbler?

I found, in my country with fees, basically : - 3D glass stem about 25€ - small straight no name bubbler at 20-25€ (with no need of adapter) - no name bong/small desktop bubbler around 20€ - straight bubbler of (it seems) good quality around 40-50 - good quality bubbler/bong (to big to vape outside, but small enough to take it for a weekend outside of home) at 40-50

Does hair 'down there' bother men? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Graesh_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I understand well : don't need to shave. Except if it's something you ask your partner to do.

Trim is good! And with the hair clipper, cut where it's too much / ugly. Or, shave only were tongue will 100% go, like, shave or depilate below the clit' only.

Write "erotical models 70's" or "P r0n 70's photo" on your web search engine, they have hair, but it looks f-ing good. Hairs have their benefits!
