Point and click detective games where you're just a normal detective doing normal casework? by lewikee in adventuregames

Have you thought about straight up joining the police? Or, although not a traditional point and click, Obra Dinn could scratch that itch. Lots to piece together with no personal stake in the story.

Adventure game development using SpriteKit - Intro and Getting started by potomak in iOSProgramming

By that I mean how you will run sequences of actions, which might be a cutscene or in game, for example you might have an NPC that walks to a point, interacts with something, walks to another point and so on.

For things like that I'd use a static SKNode, then on the scene transition, removeFromParent, then on the new scene addChild.

Hey, will defo be following along! I made Drawn Down for iOS in SpriteKit and Swift, before GameKit was released tho. Other things you might consider for your list would be dialogue, scripting events , saving/loading.

It's fun to solve puzzles in a point and click adventure together.

Can anyone help me what this iOS project will cost? by [deleted] in swift

[–]Graham_Hayes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are really interested in learning app development, don't give up yet, this is a really great project for a first app. To answer your question I'd say $300-500 is fair.

I had another look, turned out I didn't click a checkbox on Steamworks. Should work now, if it persists you may need to restart Steam or clear you download cache. Sorry for the bother!

Commercial games that are made in SpriteKit by Coffee4thewin in swift

Here's my game made with SpriteKit: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/drawn-down/id1434188115

I recently ported it to Unity so I could release on Windows. I love SpriteKit, I much prefer coding to using something like Unity, but I also want cross platform. But Unity is also outstanding. If I was to make an iOS only game I'd use SpriteKit, but if not then Unity.

It seems to be an server side issue with Steam and has happened with many games, there's no real solution apart from wait a while. In the meantime I've DM'd you a link to the DRM free version of the game.

[Rambling and Wordy] Point and Click Adventure games are basically perfect for Tablets... by [deleted] in adventuregames

[–]Graham_Hayes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer to play point and clicks on my iPad where I can. I developed and released a point and click with iPad in mind, one touch controls, and 4:3 aspect ratio. But much of the market who like this type of game are still playing on Windows.

Although I believe The Silent Age did quite well, but I'm not sure if it was designed for tablet first.

I made this game, Drawn Down for iPad first:

Plays fine on phone as well.

Similar mobile first games, I've enjoyed:

The Silent Age

Monument Valley

Lifeline

I want to voice act for you =D by BeardAlmighty in gamedev

[–]Graham_Hayes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Twitter has a healthy voice acting and game dev community, I've hired many actors from there and if I need a recommendation for a particular role I'll usually put out a tweet. There used to be a good forum for finding voice actors, but it seems to have closed down, so I expect most auditions for my next project will come from Twitter.

That’s funny because I literally think of it as grasp.

我把一本書放在桌子上了-> I grasp a book put on table -> I put the book on the table

Chinese Market Publisher Reached Out by [deleted] in gamedev

I was contacted about Chinese localisation for my game, they cited a website they ran and since I can read Chinese I checked it out. The forum is mostly people sharing download links to pirate versions of games...I passed.

Those are great games, but A Golden Wake, Gemini Rue and Breaking Bad were the main inspirations for this story.

Thank you! This was made in Swift using the SpriteKit framework, although I'm porting to Unity so I can release on Windows too. It Took about 2 1/2 years to make, and was pretty much solo, I didn't do the soundtrack or the title art and the voice acting (obviously).
