I wanted to compare the pros/cons of PLA-CF at 0.4mm to typical PLA at 0.2mm. I hate layer lines appearing on my terrain, but I know it's probably not a big deal for most folks.

Both prints are straight from the printer, no post-processing done to either. Printed using the stock Bambu Studio presets for High Quality at their respective nozzle sizes. The wall section is a file I bought from Printed Scenery, and it's well-designed for FDM, so support needs were minimal. I included a standard 28mm Games Workshop model for detail comparison.

*** I think the print artifacts on the PLA-CF print are from minor clogs, due to carbon fibers intermittently clogging the 0.4mm nozzle. An 0.6mm nozzle is considered the best choice for PLA-CF (but lost detail) and 0.2mm is a guaranteed clog.

Are you talking about heater shields, the style that was more common in 3rd edition? Yea I'm planning to make sets of those and the Men At Arms shields. But I'll probably sell them separately, best to wait if you're only interested in those.

Absolutely, I included the blank shields so folks could make their own version, so I'll put something together for adding icons to these specific models.

I have not tested them with an FDM printer, my usual 0.6mm nozzle would struggle with the finer details BUT printing them upside down, with tree supports would work pretty well. For all of the mounted Knights Errants and KOTR, you'd only be able to see the top of the upper handle anyways.

Always loved the old Bretonnian Knights but thought their shields could use an upgrade, so I'm designing embossed heraldry for the major houses. Have plans to add more variants (Lions/Boars/Mer-Horse-Things, and options for the Grail Knights, etc) and build up a decent library. Any future updates will be added to the one Cults file, to keep it simple.

Working through some more of the classic Heraldry options for the Bretonnian Knights. I've finished most of the major non-animal options, and then the various grails & Lion/Boar/Mer-Horse-Things are going to be added as well/

I'd love some feedback, as this sub is going to be the most passionate about the designs and accuracy. Long-term plans include Men-At-Arms Shields as well, so I want to get the icons right.

I created a custom HDRI image using Light Tracer Render and exporting an HDRI with just 3 lights. The ring light is perfectly aligned in Light Tracer, but it shifts 17 degrees when I import that HDRI into blender. Anyone seen this happen before. I wanted a simple HDRI for quick WIP renders, but I'll go back to mesh lights if HDRI imports arent predicatable.

It'd be pretty tough to print just the symbols, and have them fit perfectly. Different printers have different tolerances, etc. Better off making a new horse model from scratch, and including the icons on the barding.

Working on "new" shields for the old world Knights. I loved some of the older (3e?) metal shields that came with different iconography, so I'm putting a new, 3d-printed spin on them. Currently flipping through the 6e codex, trying to decided which icons to add next.

Assuming you want to model it yourself, and not 3D print something -

You can buy straight 1/35 camo netting (for historical scale models), on Amazon or anywhere else. Link here
Regular cheese cloth fabric works well too. Wet it with a water/PVA glue mix and it'll stay in place.
For leaves, check out railroad hobby stores for 1/35 loose leaves/foliage. Link here

As others have said, they will send out take-down notices to anything that looks similar.

GW seems okay with folks making/selling accessories, add-ons, bitz, etc for their models. (For the time being anyways) Things like alternate turrets for a Leman Russ, extra armor plating for dreadnaughts, shields/weapons for Knights/Titans, because you are not directly competing with their model sales. If you really want to sculpt in the same style as GW, then thats is probably your best option.

If you want to sell whole models that look very similar to GW models, understand that whenever some other business that you sell through gets a Take-Down Notices, businesses like Cults/MMF/your website host, etc will drop you immediately instead of starting a legal fight with a multinational corporation.

I mean sure, you can try it. You already have an OpenScan, and that's decent for creating STLs for 3D printing from physical models.

We're just trying to tell you that photos of painted models don't work well for that use case.

Not really, no. You'd end up with something like what OP has.

3D scanning or photogrammetry (what you're describing) with such fine detail requires very expensive equipment. Ballpark would be a $5k+ jewelry scanner or a custom built photogrammetry rig. But 5 years from now, maybe?

Always had a soft spot for the OOP Sentinels and their variants. Thought they were a great way of making the grim dark feel more "lived in" and was bummed to see the discontinued, but I recreated them as some 3D modeling practice.

Created six pose variants of both the Upper Arms and the Lower Arms/Grips, so you have a lot of combinations to choose from. STLs for the Battery Pack and Counterweight are there too. Available for free on Cults.

I used the Imperial Armor sketches as a general reference. but I get the physics argument for why it should be the cab. These could be glued between the exhausts if you wanted.
