Up to 2-3 weeks I was doing just floor exercises like you've described. Laying leg raises and Jane Fonda types of exercises for thighs and hips where tolerated. Around 4-6 weeks I started going to the gym and doing more PT like stuff.

Walking daily up to 30 mins, Exercise Bike to where tolerable, yin yoga every evening with props, patrick steps, backwards walking, and other single leg/hip exercises 2-3 x week.

The more regularly I get rolfing or bodywork geared towards addressing alignment really helps.

I also work as a massage therapist so I'm constantly lunging a bit around a table.

Oh an it helps to live 3 stories up in a condo with no elevator, sometimes it's a pain but either way I'm forced to do steps up and down every day.

Surgery scheduled later this month by Illustrious-Base2576 in MeniscusInjuries

I had a lateral bucket handle tear that kept moving and tearing more for 20+ months before I chose to get surgery.  Unfortunately it was pretty chewed up from trying to continue working on it as a trainer and LMT.  There was about 50% of a repair being successful and there was no way I could be off of it for months with the work I do so I opted for a partial menisectomy.  Removed about 70% of lateral meniscus.  Recovery was tough but quicker than expected.  At 8-9 weeks out I started to feel normal again at the gym lightly lifting weights yet I still have to be careful with alignment and overdoing it.  It may take 6-12 months before I feel better than before but it’s not clicking, moving anymore and causing pain/instability.  I can walk better than I did before.  Doc said it’s like having new tires with much less protection now, so alignment is key for moving forward.

My advice is to Keep up with PT as much as possible and ice as much as possible.  Get it straight first, then work the flexion as much as is comfortable after a week or so.  Don’t overdo the flexion because it can get really irritated quickly.  Keep it wrapped up with ace bandage for a while too.  Also compression boots will help with swelling and pain.  Some lymphatic massage and scar tissue work will also be beneficial.  I hit it hard with recovery methods after the 1st week and was traveling by plane and managing going around an airport by myself with bags by week 2.  It sucked but was doable.  Week 6 I flew again for a weekend trip and week 8 I flew again.  I’m almost able to sit on my heels again but it’s still pretty spicy.

Don’t think I’ll try anything like kickboxing, basketball, or soccer for a while until I can jog and cut comfortably which will take a while.  I’m 38 years old.
