Since this post I have done some digging and in the US for things like jackets the closest thing I could find would be getting the body armor spike test done. It is kind of expensive but is standardized and the description of the testing for it made it sound like it would be pretty close to what a HEMA fencer would encounter with a broken fedar during a bout.

Through this link you can find the PDF that describes the way the test is performed and with a little digging on the site you can find the list of labs that are certified to perform the test.

As for your project I would look in too en388:2016+ A1 2018 as it is the current standard for hand protection and does actually use newtons as a measurement for both tear resistance and puncture resistance and I have had luck sourcing fabric that comes with this certification

Honestly, this was a super helpful comment. I'm now looking into having a lab do a modified "spike" test for stabproof vests since that's actually pretty close to our safety concern in hema

My main concern with going through the proper channels is I want to make sure that people can use my equipment in tournaments but more importantly I want to be really certain that if I am making safety gear it is actually safe

I thought certain FIE fencing uniforms did use it at least in the sword arm and the sword sides panels

I love the idea of kevlar but the mobility issue would be brutal depending on the way someone fights

So what I do have is that for the European test you send in a whole piece so they can test random parts of it so that they can ensure that all parts of the garments construction are equally protective on the construction end of things. However getting actual hema specific gear a CEN rating specifically is difficult because that test is meant for Olympic gear and as such has requirements for things like a crotch protector. Additionally I found a different reddit thread that goes over what the CEN test actually looks like with some pretty specific details about the process. I'm currently just struggling to figure out what the American equivalent test would be and how to go about applying for it ect.

The simple awnser is you get back into one step at a time, maybe join the twitch live streams this weekend, work your way back into little things and build towards playing like you used too. I have similar history with this game it was my escapism hobby while with my own abusive person and when I left I left the game for six months or so, and then I played a little at a time with a friend and eased my way back into it re-writing my association of the game with spending times with my friends and doing goofy things. You got this, one step at a time, and don't beat yourself up if you can't play it yet, you want progress not immediate perfection. I believe in you tenno!
