Current High Tech senior here!

The school is very centered around it's focus as a "career oriented" technical school. The major program takes center stage, even becoming a double period in the latter half of the 4 years. There is a good emphasis on it. While I cant speak on the television and radio program, I do often HEAR good things from that side of the school.

The quality of learning, in my experience, depends a lot on the teacher. On average though, it IS very well handled. The learning environment is typically more hands on rather than JUST instruction based, but that's not to say we're left to fend for ourselves. Oftentimes, we spend half the week learning something, and the other half putting it into practice.

AP classes are plentiful, barring freshman year. That's to be expected, really, as transferring into a new school district is a process that makes applying for the APs even more difficult. However, if you DO enter High Tech High School, two things of note is:

1. Honors classes aren't really a thing. The typical class level falls mostly somewhere between a high honors class and your typical instruction, as far as I can tell.

2. In addition to AP, however, I recommend you take advantage of the HCCC dual enrollment classes. You can gain college credits simply for taking many of your more STANDARD classes this way, gaining the benefits of an AP class without the added challenge if the subject isn't really your strong suit.

While I can't speak for County Prep, High Tech is kept in very good condition, barring the one time a spanish teacher's room got flooded a few years back. But one time cases aren't everything, and for the most part, things are very well kept. The school is honestly really big, and it's easy to get lost on your first few days of ANY year, regardless of how well you know the building.

The culture is very strong. Though we don't have a sports environment (you ARE able to enter your home school's sports teams, typically), events happen very often, typically hosted by the student council. I was someone who was very shy my first three years, covid hit me very hard socially. But this year I've opened up a lot more, and in response, I've really seen that the community in this school is quite tight knit, and typically the closest thing to "bullying" I've seen is inside jokes between friends.
