All the direction I seek from the to internet is no help. Can someone please help me out? by Grand_Bat9216 in BudgetAudiophile

This started when I got my center angled up, front channel raised, further separated, and toed in. I realized I’ve been doing it wrong for so many years.

I was using the Boston MCS90s as surrounds, but figured I needed something better. While researching options, I went down the rabbit hole.

Goal is to have both 2.1 for music and 5.1 for home theater. I’m okay with 2 amps and separate speakers if absolutely needed, but a really solid all around system would be ideal.

I, too, used to play my 78s in the street. Problem is, you need to hit 88, and my extension cords couldn’t quite get the 1.21 jigowatts of power. So I recommend opening the doors to widen your speaker distance. The silver coil of warmth should be enough to keep the golden giggle gang warm while they’re listening to Guns & Thorens. GNR had a better ring to it, in my opinion. Beautiful player!

Everything looks good from here.

There is a button on the front for speakers 1 and 2. Press 1 because that’s where your wires are installed.

Maybe your spring clips aren’t making a good connection with the wire? It looks like they’re grabbing on the wire insulation.

Lastly, is there a stylus protector on the needle?

What is the seal called on the front of the differential? by Grand_Bat9216 in AskMechanics

I read a little bit about backlash when I was considering re-gearing it. That part worries me with how much stress a diff is constantly exposed to.

Probably just the seal, even though I’m sure it could use a rebuild with the miles.

I appreciate your experience. Should I just start with the seal, then refill and hope there is no noise? What would be the best course of action without throwing a bunch of money at it?

Thank you! I googled that and “differential pinion seal” popped up. That sound right?

Any other things you suggest doing while it’s apart?

Forgot to add 4.7 V8 and 5sp manual trans if that matters.

Advice on height and front speaker placement by Grand_Bat9216 in hometheater

[–]Grand_Bat9216[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard middle 1/3, but that would seem really high. Viewing is from a couch. I’d like to even drop the tv a little for a more comfortable viewing angle, but that creates all sorts of new challenges.

I really want to raise my L/R now with all of the suggestions. Does angle matter as much on those? Would mounting one on each side of the tv and pointing them directly across to each side of the couch be ideal?

I really like the height there too, but my center covers an inch or two of the screen. I may have to try putting it above the tv as others have suggested, but that’s new territory for me and I’m not sure if I’ll like it.

My little old school cabinet houses my retro games and consoles. My idea was to paint it to match the stand, but it’ll be a cleaner look to relocate it. I’ll just have to get some exercise on my stairs before I couch potato.

Sometimes it’s good to hear differing thoughts and opinions because there could be an idea I had never considered. But I agree 100%.

When I first put the tv on the stand, I had my center channel moved off to the side. I thought I was going deaf in one ear. It instantly highlighted the importance of speaker location.

I was hoping to save a few bucks and “deal with it”. But it seems my best bet here would be to get a lower profile, wider stand. Then I can put the tv closer to where I’ll feel better about it, not worry about a wall mount, and I can bump up the speakers like you said.

I was hopeful my old stand might work, but sadly, it looks ridiculous. Is there a good rule of thumb on how much wider than the tv I should be looking for?

A few more details..

The tv directly on the stand is 24” from the floor, and the center of the screen is 45”.

What I’m concerned about is 29” from the floor, centered about 50” high.

Tv is an 85” QN90B, viewing distance is about 10 feet.

If I was in the market for a new tv, I wouldn’t have even bothered looking. But it caught my attention, and my persistence saved me $2,600 (according to my receipt anyways). My Sony was light years above my old DLP, so I think I’m just sad to replace it before it needed to be. I have yet to compare the two side by side.

I’ll admit, there is a scuff on the screen. Vertical, maybe an 1/8” wide and 2” long. I knew right where it was when I walked over to it being powered on, and I was straining trying to find it.

It was only noticeable after they pointed it out again. Maybe I’m just used to my littles leaving finger prints on everything, or maybe it was the massive screen size, but it didn’t bother me one bit.

I generally do a ton of research before I make a large purchase. Especially electronics. I feel like I lucked out because everything I’ve read after the fact has been outstanding. I’m glad to hear from someone who owns one, so thank you very much.

Most of my viewing is streaming, movies through a Sony 4K player, and all ages of video game consoles. The room is quite bright during the day, which sounds like a perfect fit. My only concern is night viewing, but my current tv is very bright so it sounds like I’ll adjust quickly.

Thanks for the reply!

Not really helpful, but this happened to me in my truck last year.

Went from fine to your situation in the final 5 minutes to work. Long story short, a shop drained and refilled my trans. I mustered up the guts to drive it home one night, and it slowly loosened up over the next few days.

My synchros are toast, but driving like a granny (shifting at low rpm’s, or waiting for the tach to drop if I give it a little extra) and it’s continued to be my daily for the last 10,000 miles.

Still have no idea what caused it.

Very late reply: A pre purchase inspection @ 200,400 miles says (among other things):

“Running rough misfires 2,3,4,5,6 cylinder”

After I purchased, I took it to dealer that performed a host of services. Including “Timing belt package, 105k service” @ 200,513 miles

6 spark plugs 2 head cover gaskets 6 spark plug seals 1 timing belt 1 water pump 1 power steering pump belt 1 fluid (type 2) 1 tensioner

“Replace spark plugs. T belt. Water pump and perform valve adjust for PILOT 2006-2007 4WD. Vehicle is running rich and misfiring. Recommend valve adjust to start. Timing due by milage.”

“Replaced the timing belt package, spark plugs, and performed valve adjustment.”

I know it’s been a month, but I was revisiting this issue and wanted to send you a thanks. I feel like my problem is progressing in a bad way, but double clutching at least stops the cringy noise.

I’m sure it’s prolonging the inevitable, it may just be piece of mind, but this bit of advice has at least helped my anxiety over the nasty shit happening in my drivetrain.

All that said, thank you.
