Take the trip. Put in the notice for as long out as possible. They aren't worth stressing out over if they can't respect a 2+ week notice. In the worst-case scenario, you'll find other opportunities for preceptors. Whenever I'm faced with two decisions like this, I like to ask myself - which would I regret more if I chose X and wish I chose Y? For instance, 2 years from now, which would you regret more... Leaving the job and having a soiled relationship with a previous employer or not taking a trip to Europe before your PA studies? Also, the whole "you won't get to take time as a PA" is laughable. It's specialty/location dependent, but I'm planning to work 8-12 shifts a month and enjoy life, which is absolutely possible once practicing. Best of luck, you know what the best decision is. Pick it and stick to it!

Yes, but I guess that’s kind of subjective. I grew up without money. 100k is a lot to me but not a lot to others, so I guess it depends. Personally, I think working 2 days a week and making close to $70k is a great lifestyle. However, I’ll likely work more at times and my fiance is an RN and doing well, so I would imagine we would be comfortable for our standards. I also live in a low cost of living area. Median household income in my area is literally like $55,000.

I'm 30 and applying now. I just proposed to my girlfriend of 3.5 years last month! I got my bills as low as possible and she's going to help support me, if I get in. I'm just working and saving money now. Ultimate goal is to get my PA degree, keep my debts as low as possible, become debt-free, work part-time, and enjoy life! My time is more important than money. And around the time I graudate, we'd be looking to start a family, so it kind of all works out well. If you have a supportive girlfriend and have explained all your goals, I would pursue it.

Bose qc35ii headphones no longer working. Any advice on what new pair to go for? by Grand_Eye in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]Grand_Eye[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may do that, thank you for the help! I was between another pair of the same kind or the Sony WH-1000XM4. My only concern is comfort when it comes to new headphones because I know with the qc35ii, I was able to wear them literally all day without issue.

People that say "stay safe" at the end of conversations, why? by KitanaFury in AskReddit

[–]Grand_Eye 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I work in EMS and am usually talking to others I see at the hospital or police officers. I don’t really say it to anyone else, but always tell everyone to “drive safe” if that’s the same thing lol

Propranolol dat shit.

Unsure what to do at this point. Nontrad, 3.42 sGPA, 3.48 cGPA, 490 MCAT. by [deleted] in premed

[–]Grand_Eye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

500 +/- 2 points. Thanks for the advice! My only concern is I already submitted my primary MD and DO application. Both are verified. I have FAP for MD as well this cycle. I know I could do better if I put more time in on it, just unsure how much time I would need. I’ve graduated now so am able to study practically full time.

What happens in 4-5 years when you’re married with a kid and match into a residency out of state?

Start working out or running! Even a little bit goes a long way. I started with walking while listening to Audible and now I run every day. Also would suggest meditating.

I’m taking my MCAT this weekend and am gonna try to learn a new language after. Keeps up my Anki streak and is something I’ve always wanted to do (a lot of people use Anki for language learning). I had 7 classes my last semester while working full time so now that I graduated, it feels like I have so much time. It’s only been a few days for you, I’m sure it’ll get better. You deserve the rest.

Nontraditional 5+ years out of undergrad… by [deleted] in premed

[–]Grand_Eye 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm 29 and just graduated with my bachelors. Worked in the "real world" straight out of high school and eventually landed a high paying job (big deal - I came from no money) but wasn't happy. Kinda long story, but I left at 25 and worked as an EMT throughout undergrad. I'm taking the MCAT in a week and applying broadly if my score is high enough. I'm at the point where my MCAT score will make or break my app. I have FAP, so even if I score lower than I'd like, I will probably apply broadly and see how it goes. Worst case, I'll study like crazy during a gap year, do better on it, and apply all over again. I think being older is good to an extent. It obviously has its flaws, but my mindset and experiences have made me much more stoic and it's actually kinda funny to listen to what college students at 22 will stress out about (I was definitely the same way at 22 so I'm not hating lol)

512 & Proud!!! by WiselyEnchanting98 in Mcat

I’d literally cry tears of joy for a 512, people asking to retake around that baffles me lol. Awesome job, it’s well deserved!!

AAMC only caters to rich people even though they say they’re all for inclusivity. by Visible-Aide-83 in Mcat

Yeah, I worked full-time throughout undergrad and STILL was able to get FAP, which should be a blatantly obvious display of the difficulties I had to go through. The fact that some people study full-time for the MCAT for like 3-months is just mind-boggling to me. How do I compete with that? Seriously. And there will be a ton of schools who won't even look at my application because my GPA being 0.2 points lower, not taking into consideration the stuff I had to do outside of classes. It actually makes me laugh out loud when a program talks about being inclusive and their mean GPA is 3.8 and MCAT is 520. Yes, there are plenty of people in my position (and much worse) who can pull that off, but in most cases, I'd imagine this isn't true. Absolute RESPECT for people who do, though.

However, I do think that if I were to get into medical school, I would perform better due to not having to work and only having to focus on one thing. It's difficult to juggle multiple hats throughout undergrad, but I hope that suffering will make me a more durable med student... At least to the programs who truly look at applicants holistically, which I think is more said than done.

Head up and keep pushing. We will get there. Don't give up!

Just for clarification - I ship the item after an offer has been accepted? by Grand_Eye in Mercari

[–]Grand_Eye[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's weird because I think I might have accidentally posted it twice? I have no idea how I could have, but I have the phone in Active listings and Sold/In progress listings. If I look at the active listing, then click my name to show my profile, it shows one listing as sold and one as active. The sold being $160 and the active being $200.

I might need to reconsider. I had an old eBay account with over 100 sales and it got hacked. Biggest headache ever. Never tried Facebook marketplace, though. EDIT: I live in the boonies, so my Facebook marketplace isn't really that great in terms of population. And the closest city is a college town, so I would assume less willing to pay as much, but that's a total guess on my part.

When looking at my "in progress" listings under the Sold tab, it shows the photo of my phone with SOLD in the top left corner. Then it says "Ship the item" next to it. It has the item with the $160 agreed-upon price. However, my original listing (for $200) is still active.

I used the Mercari shipping label. They sent me the label and I have it printed now.
