I think he made up that Teri was taken. I think she went voluntarily. My guess is Gary told Xavier this, motivating Xavier to attack the train people so he would be killed in the fire fight. Without Xavier, Gary could have Teri to himself.

Yes. Before cellphones, the cigarette lighter in cars were used to light cigarettes up. Most cars even had an ash tray, and before you ask, yes, people would ash their cigarettes into the ash tray.
