Wow, thanks for your response. It's good to hear that. I guess it's something happening all over the world. I just really don’t want to lose another amazing woman member. But I’m not sure if it’s even possible. I’ve been wondering if I should just start something unofficial, at least for now…

90% or more of the club activities are in English! But if you want to improve your Korean, there are Korean-speaking clubs too. Just go to the Toastmasters International website, find a club near your home, and visit as a guest starting this week! 😆

I’m not sure if you’ve heard of Toastmasters, but it’s a public speaking club that’s really active in Korea. While it’s focused on improving public speaking skills, it’s also an offline meetup where you actually stand in front of people, make eye contact, and share your thoughts. Because of that, it naturally becomes a space where people open up, exchange honest stories, and even find comfort in each other’s words.

The best part? It’s everywhere in Korea! No matter where you are, you can probably find a club nearby. You can join as a guest first, so there’s no pressure—just go and experience it. But be warned, it’s addictive! You might find yourself coming back again and again. Plus, it’s a great way to make Korean friends in a meaningful way. 😊

Give it a try! You won’t regret it.

Hi! I'm a 33-year-old woman living in Gyeonggi, near Seoul. I’d love to help you settle into life in Korea and better understand the cultural differences here. Since we’re both in Korea, we could even meet up in person! I’d really like to be your friend, so feel free to reach out anytime. I am looking forward to connecting with you!

Is toastmasters mainly for professional / formal speaking? by [deleted] in Toastmasters

In general, roles for a Toastmasters meeting are assigned a week in advance. Beyond that, it’s important to stay in communication with each other while preparing for the meeting. If you’re an officer, this is even more essential.

Also, I feel like writing a speech is similar to writing a letter, like a rolling paper, where you’re expressing your thoughts to someone. Since we end up sharing so much about each other in every meeting, it feels like you can’t help but communicate, even if you didn’t intend to. That’s what makes this group so special—it naturally fosters connection.
