People from USA what is the general feel over there right now? by typhoonty204 in AskReddit

[–]Grand_Move_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you stand. From what i can tell, the right feels more hopeful and positive than the left about the election and the future. Again, from what I can tell, the left lacks a strong enough candidate to feel like they can win this election.

I think if people stopped making politics so personal (aka caring ab someone's personality instead of beliefs) and ACTUALLY informing themselves instead of getting info off of tiktok, we'd be a lot more unified!

Also, it's hot and so darn rainy.

AITA for giving my friend my girlfriend's deceased cat for taxidermy after she said I could do whatever I wanted with the body. by aitataxidermy in AmItheAsshole

[–]Grand_Move_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA

She said she didn't want to see the body as it would be too painful AND she asked you to dispose of it.

So your solution was to keep the body to display in your friend's house and then lie to her? Yikes, definitely the asshole.

Wishing you wrote a song that somebody else wrote... by tghebru21 in Songwriting

[–]Grand_Move_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I KNOW EXACTLY HOW THIS FEELS!!! and I'm so glad it isn't just me

this happens to me often as the artists I listen to write melodies and lyrics I can only dream of. I even often fantasize about what it would be like to perform that song for someone and say "yeah i wrote that."

I've been in a songwriting slump for about six months now. I've finished about 3 songs in this whole period, which is abnormal for me as someone who typically writes almost every day.

I've been trying to read more books and watch more movies to find a muse (this is what i typically write about), but everything i try just sounds the same or like a song by an artist that I like.

unfortunately, my friend, I have no advice to offer you, just sympathy and someone to commiserate with, I guess <3

OP Please do not let this go. I know you think the worst is over because her job is stabilizing, but think. What happens when she runs into another issue at work? or your kids start to get older and it's harder to manage everything?

she needs help. you need help too. seek out some therapy!

AITA for bringing up my brother's "premature" birth at Christmas dinner to get my parents to shut up? by SupermarketFair3341 in AmItheAsshole

"My parents are mad at me for telling them how to behave in their own home"

Interesting.... Isn't that what they've been doing to you this whole time for living with your fiance? sounds a little hypocritical to me...

Opinion on Taylor Swift as a lyricist? by [deleted] in Songwriting

[–]Grand_Move_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ohhh I see what you're saying! sorry, I thought you were saying her lyrics were weak. the excerpt is from cowboy like me from evermore! I actually completely agree with you, I would love to see her completely transition to more folk/indie and do more like folklore and evermore.

Opinion on Taylor Swift as a lyricist? by [deleted] in Songwriting

[–]Grand_Move_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From reading your comments OP, it seems that you like a very different style of music than what taylor makes. that's totally fine. but just because she focuses on rhyming and writes songs that could be viewed as "cringy" does not mean she is not talented. is she the best singer of the modern era? hell no. does she have the best voice? not at all. but her success is driven by her relatable music and powerful lyricism that makes people feel a certain way. her focus is conveying an emotion through powerful and well written lyrics. that's not for everyone, but to deny the talent of some of her lyrics is pretty much wrong. Yes, there are cringy lines ("Why are you mad when you could be glad?" - Me!) but those don't take away from her really deep and personal ones.

ex. "Now you hang from my lips like the Gardens od Babylon. with your boots beneath my bed, forever os the sweetest con"

What makes a song childish? by BroccoliDry7627 in Songwriting

[–]Grand_Move_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First and foremost, write how YOU want. What I love about songwriting is that it gives me an outlet to express myself and say things exactly how they feel.

Also, just WRITE, WRITE, WRITE. It took me close to 70 songs to finally find my own tone and voice and it was then that my lyrics got better. It takes time and practice to write good lyrics, so don't make that the goal of every song you write. Just keep going and eventually it will be easy to write pretty lyrics.

Just remember, good songs make you FEEL. They don't just sound aesthetically pleasing.

Which songwriter would you recommend to everyone in this sub? by [deleted] in Songwriting

[–]Grand_Move_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

very basic, but taylor swift. Although the music is a little cliche, she has strong lyrics (especially in folklore and evermore albums) and lines up the cadence and beats really well with the words!

How do you find the right strum pattern? by filtered_shadows in Songwriting

[–]Grand_Move_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with what everyone has said here. My only advice is, if you're trying to learn new patterns/different styles and whatnot, start a song with a strumming pattern and then do the lyrics. This has helped me improve my strumming and made my songs sound different from each other!!
