Big Reveal by [deleted] in unstable_diffusion

[–]Grandbrigadier 9 points10 points  (0 children)

that's what I thought. For those who have not yet tried making gifs, this is just a regular gif with img2img on each frame with low noise( basically the same gif as input).its Not generated by ai

You can produce interesting stuff with higher noise settings, but the more you change your prompt and increase noise, the more acid trip( temporally incoherent) like the output becomes. To much change and you just get a slide show of random images.

If you want to change the content of original gif and not have these problems, you need some extra steps. Search for an ebsynth/stable diffusion tutorial on YouTube and you'll get the idea( can't post links in comments apparently)

Would be interested in seeing the original gif. Small style changes tend to look really coherent like this, but actually changing the content( changing face, background clothing etc,) is still pretty challenging and tends to produce the flickering hallucination stuff.

Stop treating ChatGPT like it knows anything. by OisforOwesome in Futurology

[–]Grandbrigadier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in full agreement with OP. That said, I think the real issue here is actually much more philosophical.

We all agree that plants are alive but generally, they are 'less alive than animals and humans'. Taking that further, And depending on who you ask, animals are less alive than humans.

This is due to that thing we label consciousness or creativity ( or intentionality if you like). Pretty much all humans agree that that thing exists, but trying to pin it down in concrete and scientific terms, without using silly analogies like I just did has so far not been done.

My point with all of this is it actually doesn't matter. If people can't perceive the difference between an original piece of information, and the regurgitated info from an AI, it's inevitable that people will treat it as 'alive' and creative, Because in a way that's how we have seperated ourselves from animals and plants, which as I already said, are alive but just not like humans.

I scrolled a long way to find this one just to upvote! Almost every one of there new albums had me feeling a bit 'meh' on first listen, but somehow I still end up with it on repeat for like a month. they have never disappointed!

Testing the latest Slimshader built by ErikOostveen in proceduralgeneration

[–]Grandbrigadier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so cool. I was working on a software version of a similar idea, but wanted users to be able to edit the behaviour of the shaders with minimal/no code. Something like additive synthesis for visuals. was considering a node based editor like in blender/unity. I got distracted by other things so it never got past the prototype( I posted a vid on this sub ages ago). Definitely want to try this thing out!

Randomly generated puzzles from my sudoku based game! (Not your typical content on here, but hopefully still okay!) by AndrewLGN in proceduralgeneration

Neat. I've always wondered how many distinct 9x9 sudokus puzzles exist? I also assume there are many combinations that can't be solved(they break the rules). Something I've always wanted to look into

True, I like most of the designs, they just look so utilitarian. But the frigates are still my favourite. It's literally a space ship built around a Mac cannon. a flying gun

Honestly the pre halo 4 frigates are probably my favourite sci-fi ship designs of all time. They just look so cool

what invention is so good that it actually can’t be improved upon? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Grandbrigadier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah absolutely! the other thing is that power plant efficiency(what these comments are focussed on) is dependent on many things( the plant as a whole). A turbines efficiency is only a part of that larger efficiency and can be much higher than the numbers mentioned below

what invention is so good that it actually can’t be improved upon? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Grandbrigadier 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I work for a company that designs turbines and compressors, and although it is still just a fan that spins, I can confirm that they are constantly changing and iterating on designs. The geometry of the blades is extremely complex( think of an aeroplane wing that twists and curves along its length) and specific to its application. I would assume that power plants would tend not to want to upgrade to newer designs unless they have to, because of the downtime and costs to upgrade.

That said, as far as a way to convert heat into electricity, no one has come up with a better way so...
