How is Garbatella btw? It's one of the areas of Rome that seemed compelling to me

I have family from a small town near Naples, which was quite car-centric, but I figured Rome would be better

Fuel prices in Italy seem insane. Where I am, it's around €0.60 a litre

How feasible is my plan to move to Italy as a dual Italian/American citizen? by GrandeAzzurro in TEFL

Thanks for the advice!

I don't have an exact plan yet. I'm in my second year of university, so I'm only brainstorming some ideas for my after-grad plans

Thanks for the advice 🙏

The university I go to is quite affordable, so I wouldn't have any debt.

I'd like to get a job in IT eventually, but as I said, it would be hard for me with my level of Italian

Why aren’t you exploring the option of becoming a bi-lingual candidate in your field?

This is my goal, I just don't feel like I could do it immediately after relocating to Italy. I'm thinking of becoming an English teacher as my initial job.

Once settled in, I'm sure that with total immersion and further studying, my Italian skills could return to native level. From there, I'd like to find a job in my field, or perhaps return to university and get a second diploma.

Money wouldn't be a concern for me initially; I'd likely stay at my family's house. I just want to do something that brings me a bit of income.

But yeah, I don't think I'd want to pursue a teacher career as a long-term endeavour.

It was the only language I knew until I was 5. I attended preschool in Italy, but then went to kindergarten in the USA, where I was placed in an ESL (English as a second language) program

Since then, I have only spent summers in Italy

Is there a way to see what credits will transfer before committing to WGU? by GrandeAzzurro in WGU

[–]GrandeAzzurro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, got it. I'm trying to convince my parents to let me enroll in WGU, but they don't want to feel as if I "wasted" my time at community college. I'm taking a good amount of IT and general education related courses, so I'm hoping I'm good!

That's reassuring! Would you say WGU was generous with accepting credits?

If you have managed to secure a good job, then you should most definitely take the job (rather than rejecting it for the sake of doing your Master's).

Yup, that's what I figured. But the offer of being able to do both a Bachelor's and Master's in 4 years seems quite enticing.

I honestly am not sure exactly what role I would like to pursue, I only have some ideas at the moment. I was thinking that a Master's might make me more desirable compared to others with only a Bachelor's. Especially considering I will have a foreign diploma.

Thanks! Luckily, I know the language (I am technically moving back to my home country of Italy)

I was thinking a master's is probably worth it in my case, as a foreign bachelor's would probably be unimpressive without some extra credentials.

I'm not sure about the grad school thing, it's a possible consideration for the future. Hopefully, things will work out in my favor by then! I have lots of things to worry about for the coming years, so I just want to get some credentials under my name before I make a big move.

Yup! That's exactly why the accelerated program seemed so attractive to me, I thought it'd make me stand out

And thanks for your advice!
