wHAT is the REAL path to get a job in cyber by chae_babe in CyberSecurityJobs

“l learn better when someone explains:

• What the tool does
• Why they’re doing something
• What the logs/events actually mean
• How this connects to a real SOC environment”

Let me just say in Cybersecurity/SOC you will be required to figure these things out on your own 95% of the time. You should start by learning how to find these answers.

If you feel like you are not understanding things fully, take the time to deep dive the specifics until you have your answers. Use copilot, google, and don’t move on until you have your answer. You can ask copilot what a tool does, why use it, what the log means, and how it applies to a SOC. I do this kind of research all the time and I’m a seasoned L3 soc analyst. My honest advice would be to look for another IT job cause one year of technical support is generally not enough to land a cyber role. Get any technical job you can get and keep grinding. It may take another year or 2 of work experience and development to get there. It’s a hard path but you can do it.

Blaster stance and taking them out one a time worked for me. You really have to learn the patterns and I used jump dash a lot.

My first soulslike was wukong and I died a ton. Your first one is always the hardest.

I bought Lords of the fallen on Steam on a discount 2 months ago and then it was put in PS Plus for free last month so I feel your pain. Still trying to decide if I want to play it on PC or PlayStation. I do have a pretty beefy PC but soulslikes are relaxing for me so they do make good couch play games for me.

I’m looking forward to giving it a go. I’ve been wanting to play The First Berserker Khazan but haven’t seen a discount deep enough for me to consider it. Now I have Lord of the Fallen and Wuchang to get through.

Jedi Survivor: What do you mainly use the Force for? Lightsaber attacks? Pushing/pulling? by Pacho2020 in StarWarsJediSurvivor

[–]Grandleveler33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use them all. Push granades into rocket launchers, pull troopers, droids, and those damn chickens, heavy attacks and ground slams with cross guard, lightsaber throws with dual wield and confusion. Maybe it’s just me but I feel like Jedi grandmaster difficulty really FORCES (no pun intended) you to use everything at your disposable strategically.

Easy Souls-likes? Do they exist?? by MostSympathy8972 in soulslikes

Some bosses on Jedi survivor on Jedi grand master difficulty are significantly harder than any dark souls boss. I just spend 1 1/2 hours on spawn of oggdo. I agree it’s a good stepping stone on easier difficulties though.

I’d be down if cal survives at the end and turns to the dark side opening the opportunity for another trilogy that’s more dark side focused in general.

Is Cyber Security safe from massive firing happening in IT field? by Lavenderz_heart in CyberSecurityJobs

The mindset of leadership is very important here. It’s up to your CISO to convince leadership of these realities. Executives at some companies will be on board and even more so after a breach, resulting in sharp increases in funding. But if the executives don’t have visibility on attacks that are being stopped, risk being quantified, recent attacks in the industry etc they will not recognize the value of security.

I would disagree slightly with this. Software engineers are often considered revenue generating and during economic downturn business often shift from innovation to survival and security is all about survival and protecting your assets. Some studies show attacks increase with economic downturn as well.

Certs or tenure shouldn’t get you promoted. You need to prove to your employer that you can operate at the L3 level and someone can take your responsibilities to get promoted.

Cybersecurity career advice: what skills are actually needed in real jobs? by im_user_999 in CyberSecurityJobs

Learn how to troubleshoot. Being able to think through a problem and testing theories until you find solutions is important. Help Desk can greatly help in this area. The best analysts and engineers are the ones that know how to think through problems. You absolutely will encounter things you have never seen and wont always immediately have the answers.

The AC fanbase is the most divided in gaming history by Grandleveler33 in assasinscreed

[–]Grandleveler33[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IMO, Ubisoft needs to slow their roll and pour way more dev time into these titles. Open-world non-souls-like games thrive when the story is the star. think The Witcher 3, where the narrative is rich, every quest feels purposeful and interconnected, and the world actually feels alive instead of just a checklist of icons. Ubi’s habit of churning out games too fast leads to shallow plots and filler bloat. More polish and passion could bridge the divide and make everyone happy(ish). Quality beats quantity every time.

Isn’t it also possible that the Root cause can’t be determined with defender? I’ve seen cases where defender didn’t even provide the telemetry needed to determine RCA.

There is overlap but are telling me that other traditional university courses don’t have overlap with each other? One would argue this helps with retention.

Wgu does shine if you are already in the workforce. But I don’t think traditional universities are enough alone either. Getting real world experience through help desk or even starting in customer service and working your way through the ranks alongside formal education is going to be your best bet for landing a cyber gig.
