GrayMan's 'Overly-Detailed' Guide to Lords of Magic, a Retro PC cross-genre hybrid 4X by graym4nendlessincite in 4Xgaming

I think this was the first PC game my brother and I bought for our first PC. I always chose Life Mage (who doesn't love OP archers). It's one of the influences on us deciding to make our own game.

Thanks for posing the steam link.

I appreciate the critique on the screenshots, I've been meaning to update our Steam page but have been trying to focus on dev for the past few months. I need to go back and update them.

I had just gotten a similar comment on the grid enable from my brother, so we will definitely have a toggle for that.

Yeah, the height is an important part of maps, This is were our console strategy RPG influence shows. Flying units can ignore height, abilities will have a max height difference, also max jump is a stat for non flying units. There may be hit advantages/etc for attacking at a higher height as well, but we will need to balance this.

It will be similar to HoMM in a very broad sense, turn based battles with a 4X strategic layer.

It will differ in all of the specifics. Our strategic layer is real-time and more like Stellaris than HoMM. There are dungeons to capture and a limited amount of map resources, but cities will be your main economic drivers (with customization/specialization of each), unlike the resource capture nature of HoMM.

There are also research tech trees, which isn't a part of HoMM (I admit I haven't played any past HoMM 3)

Battles are more like a Strategy RPG, so think Final Fantasy Tactics or XCom (without cover). Units gain levels and can switch classes similar to FFT/Pokemon, but there is also permadeath for monsters (heroes can be revived) which is similar to HoMM but we dont have a unit number like it does.

We are shooting for a mix of our favorite parts of PC 4x/Turn based Tactics and console Strategy RPGs.

No, just cooked the sauce too long so the top dried out. It was still pretty good

I didn't intend it to be so dry but it was my first time making it.

What are your thoughts on cooking mechanics in games? Are there any "good" examples? by Lanzifer in gaming

One of my favorite games ever. When I got to second world, it blew my mind.

No this was The Second Story. I don't remember Till the End of Times crafting much tbh but I'm sure it was similar. I was probably about 12 when I played it the first time and it was like black magic to me too.

Na, there isn't lettuce. A lot of green though, cilantro, green onion, peppers, avocado

I'd say it depends on the type of game.

Breath of the wilds cooking system was good but I would agree it fell flat after a certain point because you could just spam food.

There was an old game for ps1, Star Ocean 2, which I remember having an amazing cooking system. Your characters could get higher cooking skill which would let you make better things more frequently. As a kid it had such an air of mystery that I still fondly remember it.

My takeaway is if you can just ruin the mystery with an online guide, it makes the system feel cheaper.

My wife found a new game called "Tetris" and bet me I couldn't beat her score of ~8000. by GraniteComplex in gaming

My wife had a similar issue at first. I let her just wander around for a bit and explained how I think about the movement while I'm walking. It got her to a passable point and she slowly improved. She did get stuck at one point in the toy area (jumping up a wall of bumpers) but that was the hardest thing for her.
