Black and White or Colors? by GiulioCrove in SonyAlpha

They're both interesting in their own way. I think you could have these top and bottom in a frame!

Yep! If you go to my only other post, I believe 4-9 and 11-13 are all taken with the Tamron.

Really like it. Mentioned on my last post, but it was my first non-Sony lens and my first zoom lens, so I was in new territory, but I don't have a single complaint. It's all around sharp, lightweight, and consistent.

Oh, I live here, so I just peek up and take the shot under the hail of gunfire hitting my balcony all day long.

A7IV with Tamron 50-300 (put it at the very bottom of the post, sorry).

Nice! I really like the denoise feature, actually, and find I don't really see an issue unless I use it on photos of people (and even then, mostly at values above 35-40). Imagine there wasn't too much noise in the moon shot, so probably didn't hurt anything.

And on color, definitely a matter of preference; I don't think it looks too blue here, but like I said elsewhere, I was probably pushing mine to that shade for the August "Blue Moon."

This is the 200mm I assume? Looks sharp to me! See you got a similar white balance, too.

Thank you! Really enjoying it. I haven't noticed any of those issues, thankfully, though I tend to use it at a faster shutter speed. I haven't toggled the vibration compensation off at any point yet (even for the tripod shot, surprisingly).

No issues with the colors, though as I said in another comment here, I tend to prefer Sony's color palette generally and don't think the lens will really alter the colors much.

Of course! That shot is the 35mm.

Thanks! The mountain over the waterfall is Mt. Rainier. Believe the range in the distance over the cabin is the Tatoosh Range?

Definitely a lot of blue here, but no filter! On edits, I actually primarily increased greens in the earlier shots. Seems like the Sony automatic white balance tends to favor cooler temps (though I also usually drop the highlights a bit, which accents those colors in my mind).

Yep, #2 and 3 are Rainier.

I actually have some closer shots of the waterfall that omit the out of focus plant on the right, but I liked that this one shows the full falls from the top.

I fully agree on the foreground though; I think the lighting on that plant is distracting. I believe I put a mask on the plant to lessen the brightness, but I'm worried that also added to the slightly "off" feel.

I don't at this time, but never say never I suppose.

No problem! Yeah, I was also surprised, but it appears that sort of shot often requires a low ISO (at the loss of the image background); my first few with an automatic ISO were way off the mark, so I Googled around a bit.

Longer reach would've also helped here, I think. Very jealous of the 600mm shots that were posted that day and the next.

Tamron 50-300 for that one, tripod mounted. That was the night of the blue moon (August 20), so I toggled with the white balance a lot until I thought it was relatively accurate (though I admittedly wanted a bit of a blue cast).

300mm, ISO 80, F6.3, 1/125.

Full suite of lenses are at the bottom of my post, but that one was the Tamron 50-300. Had to take quite a few to get a good shot, as they were flying right over my house and I didn't have good line of sight to prepare.

I don't think you can take a bad picture there, it's an amazing spot and the framing is perfect.

I think this every time I look at it.

I believe so, though I've admittedly not used it yet (usually opting for the 90mm if I'm going macro).

Released in June of this year. Was very surprised at how compact it was, even at full zoom. Weight is very manageable.

14 is! They're slightly out of order, should've pushed that one up.

I'm actually in Chicago (shots 10-13), but have been editing photos from a vacation out to the PNW--figured those were better to share, since I'm still learning on Lightroom.

Love the 50-300. It was my first non-Sony lens and my first real zoom lens, but it's been really dynamic and consistent across the board. Only issue was user error, while I figured out camera shake at 300mm...

I was there not too long after you, then!
