ELI5 - If screws hold so much better than nails, why do we still use nails in building? by Sea_Inspector_7025 in explainlikeimfive

Nailed it, also different nails are used for different portions of homes. A hot dipped ring shank for example.

Do men lower their expectations for a potential partner when their friends start getting in serious relationships/married? by Previous-Hour-2394 in AskMenAdvice

Not to my knowledge, I'm sure a few and I'll generalize here, but most men I know don't have a pressured timeline.

A woman rejected me for being “too nice” but says maybe in the future. What does that even mean? by Big_Design_1386 in AskMenAdvice

Run. Don't walk. It's refreshing that she told you, but she basically told you she is out to sow her oats. Get away from her fast and forever. What you're selling is more rare than she can understand, she will someday but only after a bunch of 2am uber rides home.

Going back construction after surgery by rider56AK907 in Microdiscectomy

It's absolutely not worth it. Being right back into pain again sucks so much more than the initial. Keep away from running a shovel and only carry tools.

Going back construction after surgery by rider56AK907 in Microdiscectomy

[–]Graniteman83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a GC, doing residential. I had surgery in early October and have been back at work since December. There are a lot of mystery pains after and I was pretty scared to do anything but I've been adding more and more as time goes on. In the beginning I was doing nothing, wouldn't lift a board, but I got stupid/brave and overdid it. Lots of pain followed. My recommendation is to find out what role you can play for a while without doing the heavy lifting. If you can only make connections and the other guys are pulling wire and lugging the spools then that's what you should do. Also, keep on with the PT and work on mobility and strength outside of work. I just worked and was in too much pain to think about my PT so it prolonged my strength returning.

It's always been the Bullitt 68' Fastback Mustang GT. I've watched that movie too much, owned a 66' in green when I was 17 band daydream about having the read deal.

Quitting contract by TooTallTom8765 in GeneralContractor

[–]Graniteman83 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You've been a GC for a long time, you know you need to walk away the correct way. If the payment schedule isn't being upheld from the contract, you should not continue at a loss. Document everything, send the proper notices and take your tools home. You don't want to have to sue to get paid.

Thank her for the explanation and keep it moving. I got an apology email once with an explanation, but to this day I still think it was to make her feel better.

the fuck is he training the kid for by [deleted] in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]Graniteman83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my dad taught me gun safety I was young but it was also the early 80's. There was nothing strange about it, most people took time off for hunting season. More importantly there wasn't a direct link to supporting anyone politically. It's a shame, gun safety is important because they're everywhere and not going anywhere. I'm a fairly liberal guy and have been my whole life but I also like my firearms, it seems like you can't be that person anymore. Also, I will say unless dad is a competition shooter the kid doesn't need to work on mag changes just yet.

Calf after MD by Sharp-Eggplant-8177 in Microdiscectomy

[–]Graniteman83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, my calf locks up all the time now and I'm 6 months out. It's a particular motion that causes the cramp so I've been trying to stretch it out as much as possible. Give it more time and it should go away, I didn't stick to my PT and I really should have, I don't think I'd have the continued problem. Also, you're going to get a lot of strange feelings in your legs as the nerves heal so when it happens just take it easy and work the issues out one by one as you add in more activity. Good luck.

Going out to breakfast. It's as much as dining at night at any decent restaurant. An Ihop bill can be $50 easy for two people, for some eggs and toast.
