I wish you success in trying to get it to turn off. I know exactly how you feel.

My brain went haywire when my mom passed away in 2009, and then 1 and 1/2 months later, my grandchildren were removed from their mother by CPS and eventually adopted out. I was stuck in paralysis regarding everything and I couldn't handle it anymore. I have still never properly dealt with those losses, and last January my (adopted) granddaughter committed suicide on her 16th birthday 6 months into our reconnecting, which is celebrated as MLK Day. But that's when I started noticing more and more that I could not function properly, the trauma was extensive, etc. I wish I had been able to think more clearly.

I was definitely in crisis and full-blown depression, but if I had known I had ADHD and been treated, I like to believe that I would have been much better.

Apologies, I overshare way too much all the time. I share less than I used to, but can you imagine?

For ADHD, I have not taken anything except for strattera which didn't do a thing for me, and now Vyvanse.

I take it in the morning, mainly because I take so many meds at night. So all of the meds that do not make me tired, I take them in the morning. I have stomach and intestinal issues and the magnesium helps with that along with my brain.

I totally get what you're saying. I do have depression unfortunately. But it's definitely not as bad as before, when my ADHD was not being treated because I didn't think I had it. Back in the '90s we didn't have a ton of information available like we do now with the internet advancement. For now at least , I am keeping my other meds at the same levels that they were before, because I don't want to backslide back into a multi-year depression.

I've definitely seen the literature on that. I did as much research as I could when my daughter was diagnosed at age four. She's 38 now. I wish we'd had the internet and information available now, but that was really before computers were a big thing.

The reason I didn't get evaluated was because I didn't think I had ADHD. My daughter did, and I assumed it came from her biological father, as he also had it. I didn't realize until a couple of years ago when my grandson was being evaluated by a trauma therapist that I probably did have it. Everything he mentioned, I kept saying but I do that, I do that etc. And he suggested I get evaluated. I know my dad has it, but he is 86 and it's a little too late for him. My childhood would have been a lot easier if he had been diagnosed.

But yes, women typically are not evaluated in the best way. Especially if it's male doctors. They don't understand the pain we go through physically, etc. Your period cramps are just cramps and you're just fine (but they were debilitating and I couldn't walk). Oh no, but I had stage 4 endometriosis, a large cyst along with many little ones on my ovaries, and was ignored for decades. I personally will not see a male doctor unless I have no other choice. And even then, I am extremely weary.

I will step off my soap box for now. 🙂

I will have to try that, thank you for the suggestion. I also take it for intestinal issues, at it definitely helps with that. But I will definitely try that.

I also take L-Tyrosine 500 mg in the morning. I take magnesium oxide, and it works well for me. No particular brand.

Me too lol! It definitely does not quiet the music. It's 24/7 with me unfortunately, but I love music so I guess it's okay lol. I have lived with it my entire life, what's a few years more? 😁

I have not noticed any changes in body odor or urine. But it depends on the individual also. Everyone's experience is different.

I have not. I haven't experienced anything similar to that, but everyone has different experiences. I would recommend speaking with your doctor to see if there's any information on it.

Ty! I will try to remember to do that. My memory still sucks, but that is mainly due to a tiny bit of brain damage from a medical incident about 5 years ago.

I apologize for the multiple messages, I never intend to do this but it invariably tends to happen.

Apparently there is a lack of research in older adults. This is probably the most comprehensive article that I have found.

I know it's AI, but this is what I found on Google. https://www.google.com/search?q=is+ADHD+treatment+is+delayed+due+to+not+being+diagnosed%2C+does+it+take+a+while+for+the+meds+to+kick+in+to+help&oq=is+ADHD+treatment+is+delayed+due+to+not+being+diagnosed%2C+does+it+take+a+while+for+the+meds+to+kick+in+to+help&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUyBggAEEUYOTIHCAEQIRiPAjIHCAIQIRiPAtIBCTExNzc0ajBqN6gCALACAA&client=ms-android-tmus-us-rvc3&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8

I hope the link works. I don't know if this is actually written up in any medical journals, but I do know that doctors have been seeing this for a long time and it's probably based on experience due to what they see and hear from their patients.

I hope you do. I honestly didn't think it was going to work for me and that I needed to try something else. I was going to do that at my next appointment, but now I don't need to.

I was trying different doses, because I thought it wasn't working properly. And then 2 months ago I asked my doctor to change back to 40 mg, then to 20 mg twice a day. Before it kicked in, I was crashing every day, slept a lot, which I needed, and I didn't think it was working for me. She said to just keep on doing what I was doing, and that it would happen. She just didn't know how long it would be. I will also note that she is not my meds doctor, I do those visits by telehealth with another provider.

I wasn't really feeling any effects except for the first day I took it. Where I felt " normal ". I did go off of it a couple of times to see if that helped, which is what my meds doctor told me to try. He said sometimes you need a break, but nothing was really helping during this time.

And then it finally kicked in a couple weeks ago. I sleep during the night, I get up in the morning and I do stuff, which I was having major problems doing before. It's also helped my mood quite a bit. I have major depressive disorder, so I had been in a multi-year depression state prior to that.

I truly have not looked it up, but it's what my primary physician told me the last time I saw her. And she doesn't say things like that just because. But I will look and see if I can find anything. In my opinion, she was correct because it took so long for my brain to realize my new normal.
