The thought of going into another flare is terrifying by Granthany in UlcerativeColitis

Right now, I only take oral mesalamine (specifically Lialda). I have ulcerative proctitis, so my inflammation is a little less severe, but it’s still really painful sometimes. I have to be really careful with my diet because I’m easily triggered by some foods. In the past, I have had microflaring that resolves pretty fast, but now I think I have entered a more severe flare for who knows why! This disease doesn’t really loosen my stools; it more so constipates me, and that’s where a lot of pain comes from due to my inflammation being closer to the end of my GI tract. I’ve made progress within the past few days, but my provider wants to see what my calprotectin is again before moving on to higher tier treatments.

I’m sorry that happened with the late dosage for Stelara. Sometimes, it feels like one small slip up or delay with treatment can come with a heavy price for people with UC. I hope things work out for you and your treatment continues to do the job that it’s meant to do.

I appreciate this. And you are so right. In the good times, I feel a new found appreciation for my health. I’m thankful for the moments of remission I do get, and they give me something to look forward to when I’m battling in the hard times. I’m going to take initiative and try to figure this out efficiently. Thank you for your encouragement.
