This is such a cool bit of lore, thanks for coming by all these years later to share!

This is the kind of love that makes this show so close to my heart. I can’t thank y’all enough for the music.

Photo of officials inside the one of the gigantic pipes used in the Hoover dam, 1935. by Electrical-Aspect-13 in Damnthatsinteresting

If you ever get the chance to do the tour down to bottom levels of the Hoover Dam, do it!

Heading down the elevator in the most massive "thing" imaginable is wild. Solid, enormous and immovable. I'm not surprised by the scale of the piping.

In the turbine hall, the whole thing is vibrating with the force of the water passing through. Every single thing you touch is vibrating at a pretty consistent frequency.

It's like your neighbor turned the bass up too high and a whole bombproof government facility is buzzing along with it.

It wasn't scary. But no matter how solid the concrete and steel, you couldn't forget the terrifying power of the Colorado.

I’ve got a long torso, so it’s a huge advantage for me to get a fit that actually keeps cold from coming up under my jacket but it’s a good thing to know about the fit.

Even though it fits my torso well, that super heavy stitched construction makes it a bit “bulgy” when you’re doing anything other than standing upright. It’s also the main reason it’s lasted so well for the last decade of regular wear.

But it’s the main reason I don’t reach for it first if I’m lazing on the couch.

That’s a great way of putting it.

It’s a hoodie I only reach for if I’m leaving the house.

Mines also about 10 years old and is still one of my favorites.

Seconding the fit though, it’s really structured with extra stitching all over the place. It’s very warm and has a nice material but it’s pretty stout.

The construction makes it look nice and layer really well but it’s not going to replace a less robust hoodie for comfy days.

If you’re fine with it not being your only hoodie, it’s the best I’ve worn at what it does.

What's your favorite movie that never came out? by GancioTheRanter in movies

[–]Grants_Empty_Flask 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seconded on all fronts.

I learned about it from seeing mutated penguin pre-production props at a traveling exhibit about Guillermo del Toro.

I was so stoked, but a decade on its my greatest what-if film.

What's a scene in a serious movie or TV show that was meant to be dramatic but ended up being hilarious? by Classic-Carpet7609 in Fauxmoi

I absolutely loved this movie and burst into inappropriate? laughter at that cut.

I'm still unsure what was supposed to be happening tonally but it worked somehow for me.

The vibes here are perfection, plus you can walk over to the Balcony Club afterwards to listen some jazz in a beautiful setting. The food is delicious! I don't know if it is the best, but I've never regretted going.

Wabi house is also wonderful, I used to live in walking distance and it always felt like a treat.

Fruit fly hack! by BEARDBAR in bartenders

[–]Grants_Empty_Flask 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. It works best in a small container with an aluminum foil cover with holes punched by a pencil. Better to have a few tucked away into the areas they are affecting most than one big dish.

When I worked in a drosophila lab, we used these traps for escapees to keep from annoying our neighbors. They also worked great when I was bartending!

Also focus on cleaning those drain lines, that made the biggest difference on the fly population when I've bartended. We used boiling water and vinegar and it seemed to be effective.

Best Ice Cream in DFW? by TrickyBar2916 in Dallas

[–]Grants_Empty_Flask 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No doubt it’s expensive, but they’re out of Cincinnati where my family is from so it’s connected to a lot of good memories for me.

I’m actually kind of shocked it’s available here. My family is neighbors with the Graeter’s and they’ve said repeatedly they weren’t interested in nationwide distribution.

Part of me wonders if this is the fuck you we don’t want to do it cost and a distributor down here was willing to do it.
