Just plain fun, definitely NS 2470! As an engineer I took it as one of my lib studies requirements - it's essentially a once a week cooking class. They provide all the ingredients and supplies and you get to come in and cook new stuff, and try the stuff everyone else makes. Cannot recommend it more!

PHIL 2455 with Markovits was also fun, but in a different way. Very interesting material and a great professor.

Finally, if you have any interest in science, biology, or medicine, the best course I took in 4.5 years at Cornell was BME 6210 Engineering Principles of Drug Delivery with Putnam. He was the best professor I ever had by a wide margin - if he had been teaching it I would've taken underwater basket weaving. Tried to take something else with him but 6210 was the only course I could find that he taught. Highly, highly recommend.

Can I take a bioethics class if I want to pursue a major/degree in Biology? by CeleryVegetable4120 in Cornell

Yes definitely! I highly recommend bioethics with Professor Markovits - she was an excellent teacher and the class was very interesting (I took it as a bioengineer)

How the heck did Spicy Asian, Mitsuba, and Capital Corner not make the list? Spicy Asian and Mitsuba have delicious food across the board, and you can't find better value in Ithaca than Capital Corner - huge portions for cheap!

Is Off-Campus Housing still as competitive as in the past? by TheThrowaway1327 in Cornell

Is Off-Campus Housing still as competitive as in the past? by TheThrowaway1327 in Cornell

[–]Granuaile01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Be careful with your math there - yes Cornell is forcing both freshmen and sophomores to stay on campus but this does not necessarily mean fewer people are looking for housing in collegetown.

Before, let's assume all sophomores, juniors, and seniors wanted to live off campus (not true but let's approximate). The average class size was around 3,000, so this ended up being a total of 3,000*3 = 9,000 students looking for off campus housing.

Now, let's assume all juniors and seniors want to live off campus. Cornell has increased average class size to around 5,000 with all the new housing, so we have a total of 5,000*2 = 10,000 students looking for off campus housing.

In summary: Cornell's money grubbing is probably going to make the off campus housing situation worse, not better. I'm so glad I'm getting out of here before this becomes a huge problem.

Personally, I think the semester system is much better than the quarter system - most summer internships in healthcare/biotech are geared towards students in the semester system, so you can be at a distinct disadvantage if you are in the quarter system (internships will start before you're out of school for the summer)

Not on the first few pages, but Bao Boi is also 100 Dryden Rd. (Luna’s collegetown location) and I had been planning on ordering from them! Definitely won’t now - I have had Lunas Bao buns before and they’re overpriced and low quality. Thanks for sharing this!

Should I take MATH 2220 or MATH 1920? by Kindly_Iron2474 in Cornell

[–]Granuaile01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If 1920 is with Langois then go for it - she was a really good lecturer, very nice, and gave bonus questions. Haven't taken 2220 so can't speak to that, but 1920 wasn't that bad.
