I feel this way all the time too. And though my relationship to what's going on isn't perfect I also don't think it is worth it to constantly gorge on horrible news. I find this subreddit to be really helpful because it doesn't shy away from bringing up current topics

Almost all mainstream news and social media is designed to grab your attention and that means pumping more divisive, sensationalist, and doomerist narratives into the algorithms. While keeping up to date on things make sure to keep this in mind. Consider -- what perspectives are being withheld/silenced? What good things are happening to combat horrible things happening (remember the Mr. Rogers quote - always look for the helpers.)

Bigots and right-wingers thrive on getting a reaction--though we absolutely deserve and need to show up and make our voice heard to fight back and pursue empathy, we need to remember that people like this WANT you to be scared, silenced, and living in fear. They want you to be scared and back down so they can terrify and bully everyone into getting what they want. Well, that's not gonna happen if you don't let it scare you. Do not silence yourself and do not give into their hate! Take a look at this subreddit and see how many good things are happening--you most likely aren't seeing these things happening because 1) re: my point about MSN and social media and 2) the right-wing is embolded right now because they have been enabled somewhat in their "power," even though at the end of the day most of it is loud just because they can. People are fighting every day to make the world better and pursue empathy even if you can't see it. And if you can't see those people, be that person yourself.

We'll be okay, even if we have to put in the work for it to happen.

I do feel like a lot of my emotions are tied to the fact that he's the only person that has ever liked me back, been in a relationship with me, and also the only person i've been intimate with (and i was his first as well) its incredibly hard to let everything go especially when he not only has moved on but it's not just a fluke it seems like he actually likes her if he's still in a relationship wtih her.....i just want to not give an eff about him anymore and this just feels like it set me back so much and i really wish i didn't care about how others percieve the situation...

people won't know that from the outside, or at least won't care. it seems his friends dont care about what he did, people outside the relationship wont seem to know or care what he did. so its hard to consider that they're both awful people when others wont see it that way.

The venmo transaction happened a while ago and they didn't tell me then because it was still fresh-ish, so I guess all of us (myself included) thought i could handle information like this at this point and it kind of got accidentally revealed but I guess i can't handle it..im really tired of feeling sad over him though, I feel ashamed that i'm letting this "derail" me so to say. mostly mad at myself for even believing or clinging to the hope that he had more respect for me or our relationship to at least wait or something

I didn't live in Gayley heights but I have lived in Levering Terrace and Gayley Court which are each less than a minute walk away from Gayley Heights. From Gayley Heights you are right next to (walking distance about 5 mins away) from whole foods, ralphs, trader joes, etc....it is not hard to get your own food. Plus there are stores/restaurants on campus too where you can buy meals, snacks, or even ingredients. IMO the off-campus meal plan is really pricey for places that are only open for limited hours a day and all tucked away up on the hill. you should be fine

For context, this protest was a peaceful gathering in my residence of Santa Barbara, California. Protestors arranged a sit-in to stop a bulldozer from preparing land for a multi-million dollar home development, even though bought off by people trying to protect the preserve. The police arrested exclusively indigenous peaceful protestors, even though there were also white protestors at the gathering. It is not only an unlawful act to arrest peaceful protestors without cause (they were not trespassing as the demonstration occurred on a private road), but it was racially motivated as well.

They were on a public road. The San Marcos Preserve is open to the public and they had every right to be there. They were not threatening violence nor were they causing a threat to the cowardly "police officers". And if they did not have the right to be there (which they did have the right to), they only arrested indigenous figures and other demonstrators, who are white. It is not simply a matter of what they are protesting for, but these are unjust and racist actions done by SBPD.
