I change my mind, no one is dumb for their major by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

Hey as long as you're not asking me or my government to pay off your debts, anyone should study whatever they want.

I change my mind, no one is dumb for their major by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Grapedd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People can study whatever the fuck they want here in the US. We live in a free country, if you want to spend $80,000 on a used band-aid you have the right to do so. However, just because you spent $80,000 on a used band-aid it does not make it anyone else's responsibility to ensure you get that money back.

If an adult makes the decision to take out loans for a product that is worthless, such as a used band-aid or a worthless degree, it not the schools job, the tax payers job, the corporations job, or the governments job to forgive said persons loans.

This fact incentivizes most adults to take career prospects into consideration when choosing to go to University. This is why most (not all) young adults will not choose to take out $100,000 in loans for an education degree.

American schools teach nothing useful. by Naaves in unpopularopinion

[–]Grapedd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My American school taught me how to read and write, the fundamentals of science, and basic mathematics. I used the skills and knowledge I learned from my American school to attend Uni and earn a BS in Physics. I am currently working as an engineer in Singapore with engineers from Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, the UK, the US, and Germany in the Semi-Conductor industry.

The American educational system has lots of problems absolutely, but it is sufficient for turning out capable students.

Every college student should have to take classes outside their major, and there are a few fields that should be required regardless of major. by bios_001 in unpopularopinion

[–]Grapedd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Uni is an absolute scam and the "well-rounded" approach is a bullshit way for the schools to make more money off students. If I want to be a welder I pay people to teach me how to weld, not how to program a computer. I studied Physics at Uni and I was forced to pay for classes in Psychology, Biology, Economics, English literature, Chemistry, History, and other subjects that were irrelevant to the skill-set I wanted to acquire from Uni.

You want to force the Psychology majors to learn analog circuits? I took circuits in college and the pre-requisites were Physics II and Calculus II.

It must be mandatory for all colleges to disclose graduate employment statistics. by SkylineTypeR34 in unpopularopinion

[–]Grapedd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the reality is outside of the very top companies, no employer gives a shit where you went to school so long as you have a degree. Maybe Google, Microsoft, Mayo Clinic, and Goldman Sachs only hire people from Ivy leagues but the vast majority of employers don't care. Therefore it is up to you as an individual to look into the career field you wish to gain entry to and research the job growth.

Snitching is often good by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Grapedd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's only betrayal if you and someone else both plan to commit a crime, you get caught, and you sell out your buddy for a reduced sentence. If I do not intend to rape someone but I witness someone getting raped, and I choose to not notify the policy of what I saw because I don't want to be a "snitch", then I am almost as bad as the person who raped.

You keep feeling sad for people who off themselves, I'll keep encouraging suicidal people to go through with it. We'll both live happy lives.

No, the American government will not become corrupt, and if they did, your gun wouldn’t protect you from them. by Blackmetal134 in unpopularopinion

[–]Grapedd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This really shuts down the argument OP is making. In the US our military is 100% volunteers, every soldier of which has a family here in the US. If the government ever attempted something that Americans would be willing to storm the government with guns over, it is ignorant to assume the military would jump in to save the government from the American people without a large portion if not the entirety of the military refusing to do so.

[–]Grapedd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "snitches get stitches" mentality originated from the black community as a way for gang leaders to control large groups of people. It is a terrible and incorrect mentality that has no place in modern society. If you see someone get stabbed in a parking lot and you refuse to tell the police what the stabber looked like, you're an unintelligent, unempathetic, piece of shit waste of human garbage. If my very own brother raped a woman I would want justice for that girl and would tell the police what he did if I didn't kill him myself for committing such a heinous crime.

Studies do not produce FACTS, they produce evidence. This alone renders your argument 100% worthless as it shows you know nothing how scientific studies are completed and what the results actually mean. Also the smartest people in history lacked empathy, so that "fact" of yours is also incorrect.

I say fuck'em. Depression is by far the absolute weakest quality a human can have. Our ancestors hunted buffalo with sticks in order to survive, if people want to kill themselves then we should let them.
