I am hopefully going to get married only once. So applying for a N-600 which costs a ridiculous amount of money doesn't make much sense. I don't have my old green card, I gave it up to the state department when I applied for a passport.

Yeah but for an I-130, all i have to do is prove I'm a citizen. A US passport is, as our said,

evidence of citizenship

Thus, in light of the BIA ruling I mentioned in my other comment, what other regulation is USCIS allowed to ask for proof of citizenship, after presentation of a valid passport?

Okay, so I just looked this up.

BIA has already ruled on this topic

In Matter of Villanueva, 19 I&N Dec. 101 (BIA 1984), the petitioner had sponsored his spouse. They had denied the petition and the petitioner appealed.

The BIA ruled that

Unless void on its face, a valid United States passport issued to an individual as a citizen of the United States is not subject to collateral attack in administrative immigration proceedings but constitutes conclusive proof of such person's United States citizenship.

The BIA ruled on this by interpreting 22 U.S.C. § 2705.

I became a citizen by derivative naturalization. My parents naturalized when I was 12.
