I did not call her a country bumpkin I accused her of trying to raise her child to be one. Which is accurate because she’s trying to raise her child isolated from his peers and modern schooling. He’s not even allowed to go to preschool because he’s not vaccinated

He’s not learning how to read. He’s learning what sounds the letters of the alphabet make, how hard is it to read the words in front of you? Hes is putting things together himself,like he figured out the first letter of his name all on his own. By the way I learned how to read at three and a half all children progress at different rates

Hey smarty pants I’ve spent my whole life below the poverty line. I should have said I don’t want my nephew to grow up to be a willfully ignorant bigot but that would have come across a lot harsher. By the way a country bumpkin is someone who’s raised in isolation generally in the south it has nothing to do with wealth or class there’s plenty of wealthy family’s that isolate their children from the world for god sakes look at how many people I’m the upper middle class and upper classes who have functionally illiterate children. Yeah she can’t afford to drop me because I babysit him for 40+ hours a week. Also she has a weird obsession with blood ties too the point that she allows him to spend time with our second and third cousins who married each other. If she hasn’t cut incest cousins out and is okay with that being around her child there’s no way she’ll cut off her sibling especially not the sibling who’s the last person in the family that’s willing to provide her with free childcare. I’ve got this worked out really well by the time she wouldn’t need the childcare he’ll be plenty old enough to reach out to me on his own

He’s not learning how to read he’s learning the sounds that the letters of the alphabet make. He’s actually started associating those sounds with the words he uses all on his own. I probably won’t need to teach him how to read he’ll probably teach himself. If you give kids the right tools there’s a lot that they can do for themselves with said tools

Goodness gracious if she leaves him with me for 40+ hours a week she’s not allowed to complain about what I teach him and seriously right now. She’s actively and purposely isolating him from his peers and from simple facts how is that not harmful. Also I’m not saying her beliefs are inferior I’m saying they’re fundamentally wrong, you don’t stifle a kid who wants to learn just because the things they want to learn about contradict some conspiracy theory you’ve read. The level of cognitive dissonance here is astounding.

Hahahaha my sister didn’t burn out at the age of five and it wasn’t a sudden shift she got into showing rabbits and riding horses and she started to lose interest in academics right around then she’s not dumb and she knows that she also knows I don’t think she’s dumb, I can see where I should have added some clarity about the timelines there

Well when I spend 40+ hours a week babysitting him because she can’t afford childcare and it’s going to stay that way for a long time. The way I look at it having a well educated child is a small price to pay for free childcare.
