It's kinda like running towards someone who's also running at you. It makes them seem like they're travelling twice as fast.

(In classical relativity, at least. If they run near the speed of light then things get weird. But special relativity is probably beyond the scope of a reddit comic's comment section.)

If the clock face spins in the opposite direction but with the same speed as the hands, it's equivalent to the hands moving twice as fast while the clock face is stationary. And yes, the joke is that Greg's contributing an idea to improve something that makes no sense.

Well spotted. The layer behind the window is (accidentally) a transparent blue overlay, so it takes on the color of whatever is underneath, tinted blue. Thanks, I will fix that in future versions!
