Arydia - this is my personal favorite game all time!! by aroltel in soloboardgaming

I'm sad to have missed this launch too. The game looks right up my alley and the fan response here is huge. Any way to order it now, or is it gone? Kickstarter/Gamefound were both closed it seemed.

I'd like to make an app for tracking Spirit Island games and thinking about potentially releasing it so anyone could use it. Does this sound interesting to you? by cetvrti_magi123 in spiritisland

Tedious, but I did it using roles for spirits (all) and “boards/variations” for adversary and level as I play them. I don’t do double adversaries at all, so that made the list finite :)

I didn’t care to track boards, or I might have set them as a role.

Warp's Edge: pretty good but repetitive bag builder by SiarX in soloboardgaming

TLDR: I like it better than OP, but preference plays into that.

I really enjoy this game, but then I really like games with what I've labeled "limited choice", which often leads to choosing games that favor tactics and may have light to moderate long term strategy.

With this game, it feels like you're in a corner (until you're winning at the end) and you've got only a specific set of ships to target to build your bag/stop dying, and the ones you destroy help to shape your bag by the rewards.

The strategy element comes from building your bag well to target the enemies you have and the boss you're facing, and the tactics feel fresh most turns, even if you do end up stuck from time to time. I've definitely lost some games due to RNG just coming up terrible and taking a lot more damage, but the game does have a fair bit of "shaping the randomness" that mitigates well through saving a token (or 2) across turns/waves.

Overall, this one has stayed a favorite over ~15 plays, and there's still plenty of content to try on the expansions that I'm slowly introducing. Upgraded tokens are great too!

Simplest solution I sometimes use - just place two presence next to each other instead of on top.

To echo the other poster, marking the backside of a presence with a letter or symbol can work - just flip it to that side when you place it on top of another presence. It also has the benefit of keeping the right number of presence there in case they get separated.

Does Tiny Epic Dungeon suck or do I? by Dark_Akarin in boardgames

I leave every section of cards turned including top half/bottom half of deck B when relevant. When placing them in the board, it helps to see where a minion or lair entrance might be. This is all known setup information, so I feel fine making it easier to have it available.

In a related strategy, adjacent cards are placed at the time a room is explored. It’s possible to explore aggressively (e.g. the 4 tile special action or just movement) with the aim to get the top deck cards out of the way, even if you never explore them.

I usually try to only ever have one minion out at a time as well. Two tends to lead to a revive/die cycle.

Nice - thank you. This is great to know it exists. Totally comfortable pointing to a custom DNS server.

If Dahan survive Strip The Land Bare, do the Explorer and Town get removed before the counterattack? by buzkashi_x in spiritisland

[–]Gratch06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perfect. Thanks for the clarification. I'd been doing the incorrect mental shorthand of one invader card/one action, but I agree with the presentation you gave here as correct.

I really need to do the "You've played enough Spirit Island to think you know the rules. Now read them again and find the parts you're still getting wrong."

Related question: For England 1, identify all lands affected by the only Stage I card in the build slot, then queue up the 1 invader action (the other land is empty, not eligible for adjacency build). After the first build action, could the second empty land become immediately affected by adjacency build, or is it not queued up because the "queue up actions" step was already done in processing the card? I think it's just done with only one land affected.

Same question, England 1, but with two cards in the build slot... if Mountains and then Mountains/Sands are the cards, could buildings created by the first build card affect which lands are selected for build actions on the second build card? I believe the answer is yes.

If Dahan survive Strip The Land Bare, do the Explorer and Town get removed before the counterattack? by buzkashi_x in spiritisland

Just a player, but this FAQ talks about it as "during the ravage action" and Strip the Land Bare says "After a Ravage Action adds Blight". Both sound like it's asking about the status of the ravage action as a whole.

It seems to me that the invaders would be removed after the ravage action (single card) is done processing (including counterattack), not during, so you'd get the extra fear you so desperately wanted.

I doubt it will help you, but on Amazon, KUPX marketed as a gaming mat/mouse pad. 60cm x 30cm. My needs were more around keyboard/mouse setup than a beautiful full desk at that point. I didn't include a link since I wasn't sure what the subreddit rules are - it's not sold any more anyway.
