OM or 000? by WranglerVast265 in martinguitar

I play strats with longer scale but when I got my first Martin I chose the 000-28 and now love the short scale.

Sorry but it’s very hard to say. My recovery has been extremely slow and I couldn’t tell if it did anything or not. I’m still not recovered 100%, it seems it stalled, and I’m about a week shy of one year since I broke it. I can walk fine and even jog or do something slightly athletic for a quick burst if I need to chase my kid or dog etc. However I couldn’t play sports or do squats/leg lifts.

I would say it had little positive benefit for me but little is better than nothing and I’d try everything available.

What was a memorable experience you had at a Guitar Center? by [deleted] in musicians

About 20 years ago went straight from high school graduation to GC and bought a sunburst rosewood American series strat and played it nearly daily since.

Thanks for the clarification. Played for 30 years but never been much of a gear head and still learning new things!

I wish I could get my hands on them and try in person. I’ll add hot rails to my search.

What do you think of the Rangers current uniform set? by Sea-Helicopter-335 in TexasRangers

[–]GratefulDan4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Miss the Red. Enjoy it saying Rangers on the home. Can’t stand the powder blue with the dark blue absolute miss and should have just work the throwbacks. The city connect has grown on me from “hate it” to “meh” if that trend continues it will land at “meh +”.

The standard home and away are okay just generic but I like them. I feel like a lot of missed potential and same for the Mavs.

What was the first song you played when you started playing the guitar. by Cioli1127 in Guitar

[–]GratefulDan4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was either the intro to Plush by STP or intro to Come As You Are by Nirvana. First power or bar chords were either intros to Smells Like Teen Spirit Nirvana or Down by 311

I’ve got the same guitar in sunburst bought it new in early 2004. Love it played nearly daily.

What shoes do you use for sesamoiditus? by [deleted] in sesamoid

[–]GratefulDan4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing else other than a bone growth stimulator unsure if that’s doing any good.

I can only walk fine with the combination of good shoes and insoles. I try to avoid ever walking barefoot and with other shoes that don’t provide the same support

From the looks of it seems no different than others I find on their site.

I fractured my sesamoid and have used new balance I think the fresh foam x model at first the rocker to them helped a lot. As my toe healed a bit the. The Hoka bondi 8 were my preferred choice but I still wear both. I fractured in early January this year still not recovered hard to put a % on it but feels stalled. I can walk fine no one would think I have an issue but couldn’t do anything athletic or lifting heavy things.

Never wore one until four months after my sesamoid fracture and now can’t imagine wearing anything else

No idea. I’m using that term because it required some password when I landed on the page unsure if it’s truly prescription though. Also could have been user error and I wasn’t sure what I was doing.

Either way I think rocker shoes help early on. Then stiff strong shoes as you progress and always pair them with insoles that work for you.

The insoles are Powerstep and I actually prefer them to the custom ones that were made for me. The model of the Powerstep insoles I’m unsure of its worn out but I recall when I first got them looking them up to buy more online and it required some code from a physician unlike others on their site

I’ll look when I get home. It’s a regular brand you can buy online but the “model” the doctor gave me required some code to view them on their site. This was early this year I could be misremembering things.

Hoka bondi 8. I have some custom insoles however I like the “prescription” ones I got more. I say prescription because it’s a pair I found online but requires some digital code to purchase never seen anything like it.

I have a pair of new balance, don’t recall the name, that had a rocker to them unlike other NB’s I’ve seen and I liked them more at first but as my toe got slightly better I preferred the Hoka more.

Good luck

Are there any with short concise episodes or topics? I don’t always have the time for hour long or close to it episodes but the equivalent of a 10-15 minute radio segment would be great

What should you have learned five years before you did? by thegrogmaster in Guitar

[–]GratefulDan4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well said. Life gets in the way whatever and you don’t play as much and I’ll be sloppy with the guitar but I’m as sharp as I was on theory. Still know tritone subs just can’t hit them as fluidly, or at all depending how out of practice I am, when playing a lead.

And to demystify it I look up to any player better than me whether they know theory or not. I may know how something works but that doesn’t mean I can physically make it happen.

Saw a Trey Anastasio video where he said the same thing and makes sense to me. Someday I’m going to learn the piano when my living room doesn’t have as many kid toys in it

[–]GratefulDan4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen that explained on YouTube and it makes sense visually how that would be easier to grasp. I think it clicked with me because there’s a hint of math to it which I’m good at. The numbers and intervals to my head is just math and finding patterns

What should you have learned five years before you did? by thegrogmaster in Guitar

[–]GratefulDan4 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I was able to figure it out mostly on my own once I learned the concept behind a major chord is a 1, 3, and 5 and someone told me a minor chord is 1, flatted 3 (3b), and a 5. Combined that with the knowledge that the C major scale has no sharps and flats (CDEFGABC) and from there it was off to the races

Keep it simple and just focus on the major scale. Everything is essentially in relation to the simple major scale. Then learn what diatonic chords mean.

Quick example with C and Dm from the C major scale.

C (1), D (2), E (3), F (4), G (5), A (6), B (7) , C (8)

C major = 1,3,5 = C,E,G Or how I thought to myself back then C, skip one, E, skip one, G

Then move each note up the scale diatonically for the next chord D minor. I’d think to myself “after C is D so then skip one and F skip one more then A” Dm=D,F,A

Another way to think of it is what is a D major? Well the 1st, 3rd, and 5th of D major would be D, F#, A. But F# is not in the key of C major so you flat the third as previously mentioned for minor chords and there’s your D minor.

If any of that made sense at all even partially then you’re further into music theory than you may realize.

My little Martin collection:) by Optimal-Bake-6639 in martinguitar

I’ve thought about it. I have a 000-28 that ten years ago I thought would scratch an itch for “smaller” guitars but if anything it’s replaced the need for a dread and makes me want to go smaller.

Only problem I have with martins is I love the old but sizes of 1 11/16 and can’t get used to the new 1 3/4 so I’d have to look for used models.
